A month in Brazil - where to go?

Postby ichabod » Thu Nov 19, 2015 2:41 pm

Just booked a last minute flight to Fortaleza for tonight only to discover that November is the busiest season out there :-? Seems hard to find vacant accommodation in Cumbuco right now so looking for some better alternatives which might be less crowded.

Ideally we would like to keep costs down and not have to rent a car for the month. Flat water is nice but not if it is super crowded as we are not hardcore freestylers so would be happier on a less crowded beach even if it is choppy. I have done a bit of research and thought perhaps Paracurua sounds ok? We have 7/9/12 between two of us so it would be good if the spot is not super strong wind as I don't want to have to share the 7m the whole time!

Any advice really appreciated.. thanks!

There are many places where you can go.

Strangely, wind is a bit weaker this year...so go further north.

Ilha do guajiru or Prea. Or barra grande etc.

If you want nightlife, Cumbuco or Jericoacoa will be your choices.

If relaxed, then anywhere.

Lagoinha is also nice and there should be rooms available.

Yes, November is the busiest!

Hey!
I was in Cumbuco last year with my wife and son. The "official" season ends in November, however we got 44 kite day's out of 45 from the end of November till Mid January.
(last 10 days in Jeri)
If you stay in Cumbuco, you don't need a car, but it helps, we rented one.
And if you kite in the ocean, it is not crowded, its choppy, the lagoons are the opposit.
I share 7-9-11 with my son (13 years old, 47kg)
We both ride TT and directional so it gives us a little more options in low wind.
We are going again next Friday till January... :jump:
Hope to see you on the water!

cheers

hi, I would definitely rent a car, for a compact one with air you will pay 70/80 reais per day, less than 20 dollars, with any of the guys at the airport lounge. if you fill insecure ask for Del, he is reliable I have rented from him.with the car you head west towards Jeri, it helps if you bring a gps with local database, hard to rent them here.drive slowly, many donkeys on the road.I would avoid cumbuco, too crowded but from there on you will have Taiba, Baleia, Paracuru, Trairi, and othe beaches, but my prefered ones are Almofala( not well known, near Ilha do guajiru, you can stay there and kite at Almofala( 7 km), Flecheiras, Prea( for me the best), Jeri if you dont mind not kiting infront of the hotel but nice for night life), Tatajuba, Maceio near Camocim! the beach not the city, Barra Grande. with a car you just be able to find nice pousadas and hotels, buy food when you want it and if you are bored just move.It is safe as long you dont drive at night, because of animals. Also, it is allowed to drive on most beaches but I suggest you leave it to the locals. If you can bring Kites from 6 to 12, but 12 is just a security for low wind days.
Have fun

Thanks for the advice.. have booked a car rental! May skip Cumbuco and head further up the coast for some more space. Interesting that the wind is weak this year.. maybe I'll need the 12 more than expected!

Title should be a month in NE Brasil where not to go, you should hit it all, rental cars so cheap straight up the coast till you cant go no more Lencois.

Too crowded in Cumbuco?
How can a 10 km long beach be too crowded with max 150 kites?

If you mean the lagoons, yes, crowded, but there is always space too.

Cumbuco is great to arrive, hang out and ride, eat well, meet people, get info, then hit the road and start your journey along the coast.

Enjoy!

Sorry, i was refering to the accomodation being booked up rather than the sea being too crowded. We dropped though Cumbuco and Paracuru and have ended up at Ilha do Guajiru which is a great spot. Pousadas on the lagoon are super booked up and expensive.. Some of them quoted almost double the rate that was on their own website! However, we are staying in Itarema cheaply.. Not ideal but still. If anyone knows of any budget options in the area please let me know! Cheers!
