Beginner problem - Naish Bolt

Postby ivanonaish » Sun Nov 22, 2015 10:46 pm

Hi guys, i'm a newby and just bought a Bolt 12m / 2011 with a Slingshot bar.

I still have to jump in the water for the first time and training simply on the beach to get hold of the kite, in winds between 13 and 17 knots.

I'm obviously having some problems but i have the feeling something is wrong with my set up as:
Kite tend to stall way to easily.
When launching it, the back lines appear way too slack.
The response at any bar movement is way too slow causing the kite to land straight on its face on the more often than it stays in the air.

Can it be a bar problem since it's not a naish or would you advice any other trick to have more fun than i'm currently having?

Been reading some reviews and should be a very stable and "friendly" kite to fly but it's not happening to me, as yet :)

Thank you very much in advance for any advice!

Look for an older c kite..... 20M north rhino would be a good start.

Yeah - Do-It can be funny like that. Might be a reason though. If I know Do-it, his humor is probably related to

I suppose someone should tell you the reviews you read spoke about a "brand new" kite with a matching Naish bar. A used kite that is 5 years old with a different manufacturer's bar will perform differently. But that shouldn't discourage you.

I suspect three things could be problems in this order:

1. inexperience flying the kite
2. bar/lines tuning
3. conditions (not enough wind)

Read up on bar tuning, then read this: viewtopic.php?t=2380421&p=793026

The Bolt isn't a kite designed to fly in light winds. Below 15 knots I wouldn't trust it to stay in the air.

I would advise you to get a more modern 3 strut delta kite, they are good down to 10-12 knots.

Man go get a real kite i got a bolt 12 m and 9 back in the days it was the worst naish kite ever did.

Poor low wind, poor boosting ability, weak sustentation etc...

Try to get a newer model you can find some for very cheap now.

I still ride my Bolts every now and then...

Make sure the lines are all equal length to start, i would say the lines are out.. . My bridals did stretch a bit over time and it was much better with a new set...

As someone above said they arent very good at low end, but they have great top end... You will be riding comfortably when other guys are going in to change kites... They also relaunch pretty well..

It's a Traish. Get yourself a good kite and try again. You'll have a lot better luck.

Just Ignore all the lame comments. Your kite is fine, of course you can get something newer and better, but for your purpose it's all good. Just have someone experienced trim it for you. People sound like you just bought a 2004 c and entering a competition. Now go have some fun. And don't pay attention to shit like go get a real kite..

Your backs are too loose. Normal, you have a different kite / bar combination and maybe different lines.
Anyways you need to either shorten the backlines or, easiest, lenghen your front lines. Get some dylemma rope 10 to 20cm cut to equal lengh and add knots thats it. Or just get line pigtails to add to your front lines for $10 from Switch online kite site. Free delivery worldwide in less than a week. You can get super cheap high quality lines too. 4 Seasons running strong.
