It was very interesting during the last weeks in Cape Town: At first I was a participant in the Virgin Kitesurfing Armada and have reached a new Guinness World Record together with 415 kitesurfers:
Biggest kitesurfer parade, 1 mile downwind. The previous records were set in England and Spain (Tarifa).
Then came the Red Bull King of the Air, this year on two days with good conditions (sufficient wind and high waves as kickers). Unfortunately, there were two massive crashes with subsequent hospitalization, Lewis Crathern even with nearly one week induced coma. Unfortunately, the life guards were too slow. Only a few competitors in the same heat were immediately there to help the injured to stay afloat. Lewis wrote me yesterday that he is now recovering well and that he would like to have my video clip of his crash.
In the final stood Kevin Langeree, Aaron Hadlow, Jesse Richman and Reno Romeu. At the award ceremony, there was a storm of protests from the audience: They could not accept that some handle passes of Aaron and Jesse were rated higher, than the high jumps of Kevin (board off, megaloop late back roll one footer).
Meanwhile, my complete video of the whole event is ready:
