I am looking for an inexpensive room for one near One Eye in Mauritius at the end of March. Can someone recommend a hotel? It does not have to be right near the point, I am looking for a clean spot the doesn't cost a lot. Thanks!!

In september I stayed with

Mauri Holidays, in an apartment at La Gaulette....10 minutes from Le Morne spots that face One Eye...U can book via booking.com...sori don'thave a direct email...it was modern, very clean and perfectly adequate, short walk to La Gaulette supermarket and cafe/restaurants.

and there are plenty of low cost perfectly good apartments in La gaulette, just google it

you'll need a rental car

also try joacim@shaka.com
Joacim Carlson has apartments closer still and is used by Kitethrills Aussie tour groups,
I have no direct experience but Im sure Mike at Kitethrills has sorted out good digs.

and if you really want to go troppo check in to the Riu, smack on the beach, everything you want...but at a cost

either way, you'll love the place, have fun!

can you do downwinders from La Gaulette to Le Morne or vice versa?

Never heard of anyone doing it...I'm sure if conditions were right you could, but.......

take a look at Google map and you'll see the prevailing wind doesn't really make it possible either way with any certainty

Downwinders from la galette to le morne are possible, but this only in west and northwest winds, which will make the spot of le morne uninteresting to go anyway.
For accommodation google Ropsen, he has all the good deals.
Enjoy : )

Is le morne the only spot working this time of the year (march) or will the east coast also work?

All spots can potentially work in march as this is still the cyclonic season here. Le morne has aproximately the same probability of 30-35 % to have kitetable winds. This based on over 50 years of presence here on the island ; )

Hi Nico,
Would you say its ok to kite Manawa on your own? Ie can you rely on others to help out if things go wrong, or alternatively swim back (on a surf board)? Have been kiting many years so well experienced. Have been before but hesitated to go out on my own then but was really tempted!!!!
