As far as i'm concerned the only thing that should have buttons is a tv remote.
Because it looks nicer

I wonder if sand gets inside and it can get jammed?
Can it be washed?

Definitely for wave riding.

It came with that bar stock. Thats a BWS bar and that piece is in their website's part section:
http://www.bwsurf.com/product/the-bit/
BTW, minus the side pull shackle, that is the future of bars right there. Its kites that have and will continue to evolve as to make the trim cleat unnecessary. Only the C kite freestyle/wake oriented kites will need the chicken loop and trim adjustment. The wave/foil scene will be moving away from chicken loops and harness hooks and are on small enough kites they wont need on the fly trim adjustment beyond a clean extended depower throw and a few different knot options when rigging. I love my clean bar like the one above.

I would personally rather have a cleat instead of knots. A simple pull of a rope rather than having to come in and land your kite, change knots, then launch again. This is how my last 3 kites have been and I don't think I could go back. Just a single knot to attach to is awesome
