I was there all last week, not much pounding going on. It seemed like they were in some sort of holding pattern. Maybe waiting for supplies or something..
My first time seeing and riding at Real....what a first class operation they run there. And the the food at the Waterman's Cafe was outstanding...

It’s not just one home owner, it’s an entire subdivision and hands down the best sound launches on the outer banks. I frankly do not understand how the jug handle is better then a raised road over the old hwy. it’s perplexing...

Exactly!! and it would be a disgrace if these homeowners were not compensated for their devastating property value loss.....maybe a toll until the needed funds are reached.

I was just down there 4 weeks ago. This is what struck me - why not build a raised road alongside the old highway? Less obtrusive & (presumably) much less expensive.

It’s so sad. I used to rent both those houses. By far the nicest launching in the area.
And what about preserving the integrity of the shipwreck?

That was one of the options and the preferred less expensive option at that.... I am not sure how or why it was disqualified, if I had to guess I'd guess it was the NPS and the NAS trying to save the birds again

I can't even believe building a highway that close to someone's residence is legal.....I know eminent domain and all that BS, but come on. That's just a bit intrusive don't you think? That house is completely undesirable now as a rental or permanent home. I hope the owner got paid. I suppose zoning laws don't apply to the federal government.
The whole bridge is a joke. Not only because it tanked a great kite spot, but because the residents got fed a line crap from lobbyists for a more expensive/more intrusive option and they bought it. Literally.
Congratulations!
But don't worry, when it's howling 50kts NE, I'm sure the jug handle will still be open.....

Just received this picture this morning from a friend staying in Mirlo Beach.
He said the work seemed pretty slow as far as setting the actual pilings.
But as you can see, they are in the Sound now, BUMMER!
It was great while it lasted....

It took 5 years to replace temporary bridge guys had at HWY12 washout. There must be more profit in this project so it's the last summer for Mirlo Beach rentals as we knew them.
Good news - less income taxes to pay on the properties
