WOW! Thanks for the update and inspiration stevet25! I just learned to foil this year- and our beach is almost always sub 10 knots so I'm very interested in these types of kites. Winter is approaching so maybe this year I'll actually sew one

Then Gigi came with kitestuff.org Don't you think that those strutless kites have decreased the risk of sewing twisted kites, the no 1 reason why many people stopped sewing their own kites some 10 years ago ?

Would you have a BOM (Bill of Materials) with links & costs people like me could use ? A sewing guide with steps and sewing times would be a must
I have the machine, know how to sew ripstop (I repaired a totally shattered kite) but I need a few pieces of advice.

Pantau is the genius behind this project, promoted through his great http://www.wingworks.de/ project. He has always been very generous to provide plans in the past, but he has been very elusive of late - not having posted on here since the start of the year - maybe we can entice him out? ( iwould love to build a 5 to complete the 7/10 quiver!)

I think the first kite, the 7, took about 80 hours - i was on a steep learning curve. The 10 took less than 40 and the quality is so much better - now I want to go back and build an improved 7! i reckon the 10 cost less than £100 including a used bladder. Quality ripstop is hard to get hold off - dont make the same mistake as me and use cheap stuff which quickly turns into an unflyable sack! A great starting point is https://www.extremtextil.de/en/

To be fair, I think the best project would be a single skin foil kite.

Being a fortunate enough to see two prototypes in action, and man, it is a game changer.

It is. The simplicity and safety of a single skin kite is just unmatched for 99% of us, particularly for a HF.

They are ultralight, do not provide lift, hence very safe. So small in a bag, one wouldn’t believe.

If not jumping or in tricks, a kite for masses. Skiers, land boarding, u name it.

Bridles would be a bit of time to make tho. But, one might specialise just in making bridles for a particular kites, and sell it online

i think you are right downunder - I would love to see some pics/videos of those prototypes.

I recently built a 6m singleskinner - flighsnicely on handles but really struggling to get it to behave with a depower bride - still a long way from taking it out on the hydrofoil

I'm as well thinking about the kite project, got all the gear, but 100 hours is a long time. I can knock off a beautiful shaped TT board in about 30. Well I did, not building for the last 3 years

I can't disagree much, they are interesting kites even though not suitable for all disciplines. But single skin is not so easy project because of quite complex bridle and the wingtips which may be problematic.

I think easiest and having biggest chances to succeed kite project is low AR low cell count foil kite, and not too big (4-6sqm). But then how useful that kind of at best mediocre kite is is another question.

It is very probable that single skins and hybrids will make lower spectrum of foil kites obsolete, actually this is happening already. With hybrid construction also higher performance kites are possible.

GitHub kites are great projects for sure if a LEI is desired

Thanks stevet25. Which fabrics would you recommend ? If I remember well, Polyester is the right choice. But which one ?
