Sorry to those of you who are getting sick of my posts! Has anyone been to Lake Nitinat though? Vancouver Island, Canada?

Nitinaht is a really special place.
It's an hour off the paved road into a temperate rainforest. It's an hour from cell phone reception and everyone there is camping.

A normal day will see 25 knots and no gusts. The past couple of weeks (and this year in general) have had unseasonal weather on Vancouver Island, and much of the Pacific Northwest, so there's been minimal wind.

For predicting wind, you want to look at the temperature differential between Port Alberni and Tofino. The greater the diff, the stronger the wind.

There's no waves really to speak of, no flat water, just chop.

BigWaveDave.ca is the local weather page \ forum that is used for Vancouver Island. More info on Nitinaht can be found on the wiki page of the site. ***As I write this, the site is down for a couple of hours for maintenance***

There will be an event held in August, Windfest.ca

It's not really a lake... It's a fiord!! so its a salty fresh mix... very consistent winds for almost 8hrs a day on good fog bank days with the jet stream high in the pacific.. if you come by prepared and bear aware... you are way out in wilderness.

internet is available at the local store but nothing else really.. chocolate bars and chips!! they do serve a breakfast

Thanks for the replies everyone. Looks awesome - and yes I heard this year is strange on the Island (weather wise).
