My friends solution was virb360. It has automatixal horizon levelling which seems to work well. He 3d printed line mount for virb. We are eager to go out and test it snowkiting..
Here is the example video from virb360 and self- made kite line mount with 3d printer.

Edited with pc with Garmin editor. No additional stabilization outside of editor. Virb360 and editor self aligned horizon automatically.

Is there a link somewhere that shows how to easily use this metadata to keep videos straight in a FCPX edit, for instance?

I saw a lot of threads on that GoPro page and didn't click through them all...

Yes, the Rylo is interesting but it's not waterproof by itself, it requires a waterproof case, and the video quality doesn't seem that good (especially when using the waterproof case).

I ordered the Quark and I can't wait to receive it and test it but I'm a little sceptical about this video, it seems heavily edited, too good to be true. I'd like to see the raw footage !

Knowing how well the GoPro 6 does stabilisation, I think this video is pretty legit. I am really looking forward to the Quark being released.

Yeah it's a demo video, so I also think they basically just removed all the parts where the horizon-leveling fails. For example you can see they almost only kept the parts where the kite is flying low, which is the easiest parts to stabilize for 1-axis stabilization system (horizon leveling). When the kite position is near 12 o'clock and the camera is facing downward, it's much harder to perform smooth horizon leveling in real time... Even in the parts they kept in the video, you can see some shakes when the kite is flying high and the camera is facing downward.

But from this video it still seems to work better than the Revl Arc, and I guess it's better than doing horizon-leveling by hand...
I just hope the stabilizer doesn't produce too many artificial shakes though (when it fails to compensate during half a second and then brutally restart to compensate correctly).

I also pre-ordered the Quark. Mostly because it will use a proven camera, my GoPro, and the cost was too good to pass up for the potential benefits.

Interesting device. I suspect I'll check this one out. At the pre-order price it's a good deal. At the MSRP, it's a pricey option for single axis stabilization.

I agree that it'll be nice to add waterproof stabilization to a mature camera we already trust. That's a plus. The battery life is kind of rough since it does not seem like the battery is removeable. While I can turn my camera on and off via remote to preserve battery life, the quark will be powered up all the time. And it seems like I'd have to remove it and charge it for two hours to get back at it.

The Revl has removable batteries so you'd be able to swap in a new cell more easily. I suspect they both have a similar design and will have the same stability challenges as were mentioned. Makes sense that a low angle kite will be easier to handle than a high angle kite. Much tougher to figure out.

I finally got to hold a REVL last week and it is a very well manufactured solid device. Smaller and heavier than I thought, but looks pretty cool. There seems to be a lot of stoke and financial backing for their device, which makes me think it's is likely to hang around longer than the Quark will. We'll see...
