Angry Swallow fin configurations

Postby The Captain » Mon Aug 29, 2016 12:18 am

Can someone give me the rundown on the pros/cons of the different fin configurations? (2015 5 fin)
What about aftermarket fins of different sizes?
Is there a good fin setup for light wind? Or, replacement fins for light wind?
I searched around, not a lot of info about it...

Thanks.

I had the T Rex, and found that quad fins were great for a fast drive but a little harder to carve and skipped a little in choppy water.
Tri set up was better for carving.
I used the slingshot fins -
No experience with different set up for light wind

i have that same board, started with the included fins running as a quad. The provided fins are not so great.

I switched to the FSC 2, MR twins set. Up wind was so much better, it was amazing and noticeable on the first trip out off the beach. At first i thought it must be that the wind was a little different than normal but on the other tack, same thing, so far upwind.

I like using the tiny third fin provided with the MR twins, i find it much more stable and seemingly faster, maybe better flow? with the little 3rd fin istalled.

If I am not mistaken, that board only has 5 boxes in it. I would add 2 or 3 more and run all 7 to stabilize it.

I run mine Thruster set up all the time. Quad seems to drag too much and it suffers upwind.

Alright! I'm on the right track now... Thanks for the links and personal experiences with this board.

I will say, while I am sure different fins make a difference, hundreds of $$$ for fin sets seems absurd. I have trouble accepting that hex core carbon whatever would really be all that different than plastic, shaping aside. These things should cost $20 a set on eBay from China.
R&D costs, I guess ;)
