Best jumping tutorial I have ever seen

Postby pablomontanero » Sun Sep 04, 2016 6:13 am

I just discovered this tutorial about how to jump.
I took the risk and paid for it, and I have to say it is definitely worth it.
It is a very detailed and professionally made video touching on mistakes I am doing since years.
Just wanted to share this. Maybe some of you are as happy with it as me:

Very good video that goes into depth about how riding stance and proper edging is essensial for good jumps.

I also like the kiteloops episodes:

But when is episode 3 coming??

Let me chime in, I've seen every possible jump training available, and this stuff is on another level.

The author, Anton, has a true talent for teaching, and it really goes way beyond the usual "edge hard and build tension".

The only downside is that the training is thorough but it's "only" part one...I mailed the guy, I understand he is planning to release part two later this year (obviously it's just an estimate).

I can only recommend anyone interested in jumping to pay the small fee and give Anton the reward he deserves!

This guys content is truly exceptional, the production quality to top class and would put the kite manufacturers marketing vids to shame. From a teaching perspective it puts the monotone progression series to absolute shame.

Fair Play Anton :thumb:

I bought this video a couple of weeks ago. Its very good for beginners/early intermediates.

Essentially he teaches you proper edging technique. As he says in the promo 'Are you stuck at that 4m jump height barrier?' - the underlying premise being without good edging technique you will struggle to jump higher. Hence if you are already jumping way over 4m you probably have your technique dialled in and this isn't going to be as much use as it might be otherwise.

What I particularly liked was that he didn't do the usual 'If your jumps look like this then your mistake is...' part on the video. Instead he just lead you through a series of exercises that built up to the full technique. That sounds a bit sale pitch as edging isn't difficult but what I mean is that he has a formulaic approach of do the exercises get the skill. Rather than the progression style of copy the video. Then come back and watch it again to work out what you did wrong after you've tried it.

I can't say for sure I'm jumping higher yet (xensr only just turned up and hasn't been enough wind since) but I can say I'm jumping a more consistent height (as opposed to some high, some low). I certainly 'feel' like I'm jumping as high as I previously did but from a much lower take off speed.

Again, its really a 'how to edge properly video', the advantage on this being you will jump higher but also will go upwind better. A lot of forum advice on jumping higher is from people who already take good edging technique as a given. My form was somewhat patchy - in ideal wind conditions I would be loading up the edge well and get reasonable height but a small change to the wind strength/ bigger chop and it would all fall to pieces. Its a good tutorial for me.

I think I read he was looking at October for the next video in the series.
