Best Splitboard for a world tour? Nobile Split NHP vs ...

Postby kohsamui112 » Thu Sep 15, 2016 3:37 pm

Hello,

i am preparing a world tour ( Tarifa, Jerico, Paracas Boracay) and I discovered the world of Splitboard:
Since I travelling during 8 months with a lot of aircraft, bus, taxi ...
+ By myself and no driving I would have to go to the spot without a car ...
The split board seems to me the perfect solution! (Apart from the price that hurts)

I found :
- The Nomad 135 cm x 40 cm
http://www.kitesurf-nomad.com/no-mad-tr ... c2x1548878

- The 2016 Nobile NHP Splitboard (the Carbon version is too expensive)
http://www.nobilekiteboarding.com/produ ... split.html
different sizes 130x39 134x41 138x43

- FLYSPLIT: in 134x40 / 160x44
https://flysurfer.com/project/flysplit/

- Kite Element: 3 different boards
http://www.kitelementshop.com/category/ ... oards.html
But they have some negative returns according design of their split

- Newind
http://www.newind.net/splitboard/
same design like flysplit

After what I've read I should go for the Nobile split NHP (in first place after the different return) and Flysurf stands out from others,
What do you think?
+
I'm 1m92 for 93kg what size you will recommend me there? :?:

Thank you very much in advance :bye: !
PS : I am french so sorry for the mistake,) ( C'est la vie!)

The idea is that I bought my board before I go to Tarifa next month and I bought the rest of my gear there after having tested for rent. (For split board it looks hard to find in stores and a also second hand)

I did this over the last 12 months: Sri Lanka, Soma Bay, Phuket, El Gouna, Cape Town, Boracay, Mauritius all with the Nobile Split. Its a great board. I would opt for the carbon one tho for weight savings. In El Gouna and Boracay when the wind was light, i was able to rent a raceboard to keep riding so I didnt have any regrets.

It boggles my mind that split boards aren't more common.

I have the newwind split board and love it. No flex in the joint, feels very secure. I would recommend it, but at the same time have not tried any others.

If you are looking for the biggest range id recommend the flysplit l. Great for those light wind days and flexes enough when you are over powered. I have both and the L has been my favorite. With the nobile you have to be pretty powered which reduces the days you can go out without renting.

Thank for all your answer!
I don't know if i need the FLYSPLIT L 160x44 or the Nobile flying carpet 160x46
because For Tarifa and Jeri/Prea the wind should be more than 20 knot when i will be there and for Paracas in Januaray and Boracay less windy but more than 15 knots.
With the choice of my board i have to think also with about the kite : one of 12 or two of 10 and 15?
I am really not sure about that and any advice are welcome,
my idea is to buy it in Tarifa and try them before because i read that each brand got their style?...

Hi! I am doing a similar thing to you, traveling for year or so kiting. I bought 2 split boards, Nobile NHP split and flying carpet split 160cm, the NHP I got was the 134x41 as I have the flying carpet, so opted for a smaller board. I am same weight as you around 93kg. If you can only take the one board, I would suggest the 138x43cm. My normal kite kit is 9,12,15 LEI kites at home but traveling it is too heavy, so 12m is my main kite, and I have bought a 14m closed foil kite (nearly half the weight as LEI kite) which works well for me from 8-19 knots, on the carpet until around 15knots then I can change to the NHP after that. On the smaller board also I can use the 12m LEI until around 25 knots. giving me a 8-25 knots window. I am new to the foil, but about to hit El Gouna for 6 weeks to hopefully master it, so if I like it, i will probably change travel kit to get 3 kites in, a 9m LEI for 25+ knots and 11m and 14m closed foil kites which take less space and much lighter. I watched a guy on an 8 meter foil in 25+ knots ripping it up, doing some amazing freestyle, and big jumps so once you get familiar to the differences in handling, I see it is just as much fun. But you have much more upwind ability on a foil kite and longer hang time as I see, so it also opens up circuit racing and foil and race boarding. Hope my story helps you a little! Peace out.

Thank you so much for your help!

I think at the end i go for 9/13.
If my information (and my calculations of the hood) are good:

- 9m² allow me to 9m kite from 20 to 33 knots
- 13m² allow me to kite from 14 to 22 knots

Which should allow me to kite in most situations,
starting with 13 in case of light wind (roughly in most spot where I should be there will be 15 node in the morning)
Maybe my 9m will be too high in some cases to Jericho / Prea but it should be rare.

I also travelled with a 9/13 combo. Good choice.

I have both the NHP and Flying Carpet like Xoze, and just like Xoze I find that the NHP is a great board when you have good wind. I agree with everything is says.
