Look at the quote. They are clearly stating the watch is not recommended in that situation.
Go for it. If it gets water in it, call apple and try to get them to honor the guarantee.
apple uses surfing to promote the watch. i think apple corporate wouldn't use show a watch surfing for a workout it wasn't ok.
But hey what does apple know? clearly their resellers must know more.
Go for it? i did. worked great. washed it with fresh water and no issues. there is this mode called water locked where the watch is locked and only shows the kite app when I'm on the water and when I'm finished i turn the crown and it unlocks and makes this sound that clears water from the speaker. it really spits out water when it makes the sound!
the guys who made the sessions kite app got this swizzle figured out for sure! it. spits.out.the.water.after.the.session. hahaha, its fling hysterical to see.
i bought my watch for $260 and I use it for all sorts of things now its super rad. Same price as one of those wooo things and not only gives more data from what i can tell i can actually use it so its better money spent than just a stupid blue brick that just tells me that i jump higher than my buds.
best part i can check the wind with the watch and never miss it!

How is the data accuracy? has anyone compared app results with woo/xensr sensors?
To users that have used the app - do results seem reasonable? All jumps get registered?

I would also like to know since it uses GPS instead of sensors for accuracy. I'm hoping to get a deal on one for black friday/cyber monday.

Data seems sane . Aw contains the same sensors as woo/xensr
Gyros and accelerometers plus gps . Some rumours about Bari as well but that’s not gonna work in a waterproof case for anyone

cant speak about woo but the sesh app caught all my jumps and the heights seemed right to me. gps track was spot fcking on, speeds were epic and i had two beers to make up for the calories i burned. thats a win win win in my book!. O, and Im using my watch to do other cool swizzle while the woos and piqes sit in the bag useless.

I'd like to see a comparison with the Woo as well before switching.

The quote was from apples own site. It wouldn't be the first time a marketing department doesn't pay attention to the spec.

Regarding the warranty - it seems that in UK and US water damage on AW and iphones is not covered by warranty. If you go to service with AW subjected to water damage, apple will not repair it.
You are all good if you have AppleCare+ though..

Not sure about other countries though. I guess I would go through the warranty conditions before buying if you don't want to pay extra for AppleCare+
Kinda sucks. They even featured Sessions app during their media presentations about new watchOS. They said that now with this app you can track your surfing sessions and use it as activity watch even in those kind of activities...

This is why they have that fine print on their site. Water damage > no warranty, or at least some line of denial.
Showing people surfing is risky, but perhaps they are willing to take the risk.
What's the risk? a number of pissed off customers, perhaps it's worth it to them.
