has anybody modified their Compstick bar from below bar to above bar trim ??
Ive done it with the older 2008 / 2009 bars , but I'm considering buying a bunch of 2011 - 2015 comps ticks and converting them to above bar.
Anybody got pics of the butter box assembly?
Or can give me detailed info on how the trim line is fitted to the butter box ?? Pin? Knot ? Screw?
Can the clam cleat be removed from the butter box?
Just want to wrap my head around it before I go splash some cash on it, but can't seem to find decent dismantling pics.
Anybody done it, or can help??
Cheers.
Get some wind up ya!

I converted an Airush Smartbar to above the bar cleat system using 5mm Dyneema, a Wainman swivel (half the price of the Slingshot swivel) and a Slingshot Sentinel cleat. Had to adjust line lengths but it was pretty straight forward tbh. Also got rid of the CL and the associated crap.

yeah.....
ive made heaps of franken bars......
i prefer my home mad bar then most brands...... just simple and clean and no clutter.
but im trying to make an adjustable 5th line.
so.....
i wanna splice up a centreline and turn it into above bar trim.
easily dont, but i just dont know how the trim line is connected to the butterbox.
then i can use the bellow bar clamcleat that is spare and use it as an adjustable 5th line.
before you comment, i havnt even figured out the flagging system, but i'll get to that.
step one is to be able to trim, both kite & 5th.

You could instead just buy a 2016 that already has an above the bar setup.

nah, sentinel is still too new & expensive.
might get one late this season when people are upgrading.
i dont buy new gear, everything i buy & own is 2nd hand, or last seasons run out.
i cant justify $2000aud for a kite im going to fly kick hot launch of the rocks!

will the sentinel system retro fit to a 2014 compstick?
or will the CL not fit snug in the bar insert?
would consider just buying the sentinel kit ( ie: Chicken loop, sentinel clamcleat, trim line, etc)
the sentinel CL fits snug and locks it into place on the insert so that when you unhook the CL is always in the right spot, but will the 2014 compstick be snug?
or am i going to end up with a dangle berry bar?

You can buy the new center line with the chicken loop. I did that on my short wake bar. I had converted it but it would all ways twist the flag out line up so thats why i changed it out.

Yep, I've just done this.
Up in the stickied thread on kite repair are some posts about cleats, i purchased a cleat and some dyneema rope (7mm)
i then took the cleat from the butter box out (a couple of screws if I remember correctly) and there is a hole in the butter box that lets you thread some rope through the hole. So I measured the rope to the correct length. Then I fed it through the butter box so both ends came out the top. Then I spliced to create a loop, so the butter box is now inside the loop - does that make sense?
Before any changes, the butter box has one end of rope looped over that little pin, and the other end of rope goes up over the swivel and down through the butter box and through the cleat.
Now the rope comes down into the box in the space where the cleat used to be, through the little hole, up past the pin and out the top.
Now splice the ends that come out the top.
Next thread the rope up through the back of the cleat.
Then thread the roped up through the swivel and back down through the front of the cleat.
Finally attach a handle to the end of the rope, I used the handle I took off the below the bar depower rope.
Then run the leash down as normal. Quick release works as before.
I used 7mm rope, but I think 6mm would have been better.
if you want some photos reply to this tread, I think I have some pictures of the process.

I e made the change on one bar I've got. And I f'n love it. Screw the below the bar trim. Above is just easer especially when you just think about leverage.
