Boosting in the unnatural direction!

Postby Kitemanmuc » Fri Oct 14, 2016 4:49 am

So! I boost while riding to my right. Im getting pretty good at it. Can hit 35+ feet.
But now i have been trying to hit kickers going to the left and i cant for the life of me coordinate this.
I feel the same way I do when i try to throw a ball with my left hand.

Any advice? Is this just s practice thing? Or something that will always just be weird?

Depends on wind and wave direction. Sometimes here, goofy is the best boosting side...

I have other direction issues though, like riding toeside from my natural direction or heel to toe jibe from goofy...

You will probably always have a strong and weak side but get a skateboard and only ride it left foot forward...it will help

Agree with the OP, I happily hit over 40ft on starboard, but struggle with 16ft on Port - it just feels wrong - like writing left-handed - I suppose you are using different sides of the brain &/or lacking motor/muscle memory. As with everything, it takes commitment I suppose - I remember first riding switch on a SB and went from hating it to loving it after a few weeks.

It is almost only a matter of practice !

And you have to practice the weak side a lot more, so if you just use your strong side most of the time, or even half of the time, you will in my experience never get close on your weak side.

But if you go out and jump on your weak side MORE than the strong one, whenever you are out - it will change things a lot and quite rapidly

I do all jumping tricks to the right, transitions to the left. Can't really boost high to the weak left side...if you are starting then learn on both sides...if you want to concentrate on new tricks, don't waist time for the week side...

From beginning I did all trick both sides. Only when I release edge or land flat downwind on wrong side it feels uncomfortable.
After a while you will jump better on wrong side, I feel like you get a better pop because your back leg has more strength and dexterity on wrong side.
It's possible that I send kite a bit better on my wrong side because I'm right handed (I'm goofy)

Though I agree that a kicker is harder on wrong side, easier to loose balance and go in rotation if you mess up timing...

Just practice, I can only jump high on my weak side because that's the way the waves line up at my home spot. Need to find somewhere on the opposite coast to practice jumping on my good side.
