Neither, go with the 5,1 Vader. So much fun on a wave...

Yeah, @knotwind. I thought like you and the 501 VD was my sure bet. This before reading all the good comments about the Evo speedy turns and planing.

The VD upwind ability also worries me a bit, as how it handles choppy. I want to throw myself into, bigger, cleaner surf. However, I will still have to face choppy conditions most of the time since it is the rule where I live.

See if you guys that tried different Tomo models can help me with Evo sizing.

With 78kg (5'10''), the VG 502 has been working fantastically well for me in the last year, either in 12kn as in +30kn. I use my VG mostly in chopy, weak mushy waves no higher than 3'.

Now I want to try more cleaner, powerful +5' waves. I want to actually surf them, w/ the less anount of help of the kite, using it just to upwind me back to the spot. I'm looking for a more snappier board than the VG. Don't get me wrong, the VG is super fun and versatile. But given all comments I read so far, the Evo seems to have what I want.

However, my 502 23l VG falls just in between the 2 closest Evo alternatives : 19l and 24.5l.

Which size to go? The 410 or the 501 Evo?
At your weight and conditions, I think you would be happiest with the 5'1" Evo. I'm 88kgs and ride the 5'3" Evo and love it, versatile in all conditions. Planes earlier and goes upwind better than the Vader. :thumb: Do love the Vader in 'powered' conditions though, very quick stick.

IMO, the Evo planes a tiny bit better and goes upwind a tiny bit better but that is not why you buy a wave board.
The Vader is way more fun on the wave, goes more vertical, faster turning, blah, blah, blah....
Guess you’re going to have to demo✌️

I have both Evo & Vader, my ideal board would be an Evader.
Evo nose + Vader tail & channelling.

Google "Smook Shredder kiteboard" if your keen for a custom Vader like board. I don't have one but been looking at them for a while.

I just picked up the new lightweight space technology construction.. so light it is insane! As light or lighter than a polyester board.. interesting to see if they fall apart when kited.. will stick to your feet sooooo well...

If anyone needs Vader 5'5 - let me know, I have one and it's too large for me.

My Helium Vader does hold up pretty well.
Have about 40 days on it and no visible dents yet.
