Postby waynepjh » Wed Nov 09, 2016 9:43 pm

Ive flown the 13 meter and loved it tremendously! About to purchase one and am thinking I should get the 15 cause im a big guy "200lbs". this will be my lightwind kite. Any input on helping me decide would be much appreciated! :thumb:

I'd get the sonic v2 15m ;)
Flown the chrono v1 and didn't get along with it. Seen the v2 still have wing tip tucking issues in the hands of a very good kite surfing instructor on a foil. And v2 sonics go really bloody well. Mind you I'd be more inclined to buy a 15 diabolo v1 personally. FOne still make the v1 too.
To answer you op. 15m for light wind ;)

what are you looking to do with it? for foiling the 13 would probably be the biggest you would need

Not so sure that was the answer to his question!

I'm the same weight and have a 15m Chrono 2.

Downsides - launching can be a bit sketchy, especially when powered (for me at approx20knots it gets lively). Also in super light conditions i.e. When foiling, if the wind drops to zero and you have to swim in - your pack down technique has to be good, otherwise it fills with water !

Upsides - the above comments are nonsense, this is my first foil kite & ive only flown it x4 times & the foil is incredibly stable & even in v light 5-7 knots the kite just hovers in the air, when any other kite, such as my 17m edge would fall out the sky.
For hydrofoiling the performance is nothing short of amazing, I have clocked 20knot averages in an indicated 5-7knotsbof wind - a few other foilers with 10m Naish trips could not even launch their kites that day as the wind was so light.
When the wind picks up & when using with my mutant, it gets you going and boosting much earlier than a 17m edge or zephyr and I have hung onto it up to 22knots - the hangtime is superb I've managed 10.5m & 7.2 secs without even trying - no doubt if used with a hydrofoil it would be a lot higher.

For me a 13m would be too small - the 15m is slow - it reminds me of the old 19 or 20m Ravens, but for light winds it's super & v user friendly (once in the air!) and a great low wind freeride kite.

Hope the above helps

You should try the v2 sonics. Amazing stability. Tried the chrono v2 in 15m and I found it to be far slower than a sonic v2 through loops. Never having to worry about the tips tucking in during tacks, jybes, and jumps is a huge plus.

Since your question is in regards to either a 15m or 13m chrono v2. Id go for the 15m especially for lightwind at your weight.

The OP is Ozone team rider! So no need to recommend other brands for better choices.

In Trumpland's measures I am 250lbs and I can still use 15m Sonic v1 with door twintips to ridiculous low winds. At low register there is certain requirement for "displacement" where agility/speed cannot compensate anymore. So 15m would give you perhaps 1kn better low end but nothing more. Also summertime kiting depends a lot on your board. Tone is big guy and he has stated that he (or his friend) can use 10 Speed4 Lotus with hydrofoil to lowish kiteable winds (6-8kn if I remember correct). So with hydrofoil you should go to 13m. With twintips to 15m. With racing 15m or even 18/19 if I understood correct that biggest kites with short lines are now the racing trend for VMG.

I know you love the winter mountain glides - so maybe decision to your size selection is there. With 15m you'd have slightly better glides because of lower wing loading. But again marginal percentages. Steep mountains, maybe you benefit 13m better agility and probably a bit higher high end as the mountain gradients usually are high (valley - no wind, 600ft up blasting).

On my local conditions and 'habits' I'd go for 15m.

If using for light winds I would definitely go for the 15m Chrono 2 at your weight. I am 40lbs less and used the Ozone Chrono 2 15m ultralight with a foilboard and was very impressed with the overall performance. Super steady without any wing tip curling in sub 10knots. I have used the 11 Chrono v2 as well and can vouch the need for a larger kite at my weight if looking to kite in even lighter winds. For enhanced light wind performance have a look at the ultralight chrono v2 as well.

Gotta love forums.
Everyone says 15m chrono 2. But "above comments are nonsense". Then people bitch about other recommendations being given.
Then we find out the op is a ozone team rider.....
I'm now wondering why on earth we are being asked at all.

I really appreciate the replies! Guess I should of stated i am an ozone guy. This purchase is an expensive one and i can only afford one. Just asking for help making my decision. Nothing more.
My current light wind kite is a 15 meter edge that i use on snow and water. After flying the v2 13 meter i was sold cause it acted so similar to my 15 edge. Ive never needed a kite bigger than a 15 edge. Would you say that a 13v2 has similar power to a 15 edge? Definitely going for the ultralight version. Tried it on the summit snowkites and loved it. Thanks again!
