The rally will still be a good option for an all-around kite.
It looks like the new Turbine will be positioned as a extra lightly built high performance kite specifically targeted at the increasing number of foil board and light wind board riders who do not need/want surf ready heavier construction kites.

The 2012 Rally line extended by 15m Turbine has been my best pick for years be it twintip/door riding or foil cruising.
The 8m rocked from white caps and higher. The 10m has been my favorite regular winds kite, 15m Turbine kept me upwind of guys on 17/19/21 monsters and in 7 knots and sometimes in less even lighter winds.
I came across 14m Rally 2012 last summer thinking it might become even smaller LW kite but it wasn't - comparing it 15m Turbine the pull wasn't strong enough for my weight. What 14m became though was my best freestyle wing for 10-12 knots and largest wing I'd take foiling

New Turbines are out, guys at Slingshot seemed to update the windrange table since the initial release and those Turbines are tempting. I think following:
- for a size Turbine will pull/boost more
- for a size Turbine will deliver better upwind
- for a size Rally will turn faster
- for a size Rally will drift better

Not sure which one I'm going to pick in 11m size yet, still overanalyzing, have to demo....

Have they tweaked the aspect ratio of the newer Turbines? I have 2015 Rally's and a 2015 17m Turbine and to me the Rally seems to sit a little more forward in the window. Maybe it's the size or conditions, but one of my complaints with the Turbine is it sits too far back and when the wind picks up you can't drive it forward enough and the pull becomes downwind.

I have a new 2017 Turbine 11 m, I have 3 hours on it thus far, it pulls like a train, was out when everyone else was on big kites, minimum I saw was 14 m, many of those guys wound up walking their kites in, yes I had to work the turbine but it just kept on chugging.
I came from riding Bandits, and it feels like the turbine is so slow turning, it rides like a ozone edge, you have to really crank the bar hard to get it to turn.
What's good about it is it does go upwind good, if you can hold your edge, toesides are a breeze.
Don't know about jumping as I was riding in 10-15 mph wind with most of it closer to 10, with it, got a couple in.
Can't wait to ride it Ina better wind range.
So far so good, as slingshot says it is a rally on steroids.

To be fair when I'm using my 12m Rally on a TT most others on TT's are using 13m and 14m's - the Rally low end is very good. (~82kg, 5'11", Monk 42cm, old bloke).

But if the 11m Turbine really will haul me around in 10 knots (11 mph) on my TT then I'll be first in the queue to buy one.

Had a great opportunity to demo brand new 2017 Turbines in OBX in last couple of weeks.
Here's couple of notes:
- 15m 2017 is exactly the same as mine 15m 2015 by flying characteristics. I took it foiling in very light wind and there were no surprises. Expectations met
- 19m - Didn't dare to demo the it (read below). I would need a hot girl on my back to weigh me down for that size.

9/11/13 sizes were a kick:
- they go upwind like mad
- they feel a bit slower to turn (compared to Rally)
- the pull while exiting from jumps/rolls/transitions is very stable
- they certainly fly bigger, much bigger. The 11m felt like 12-14m Rally to me
- the jumps are super lofty. Jump as high as you're not afraid to and fly
- there's not enough depower. You have more way remnant power after sheeting out compared to Rally. I'd say this specifically gets this kite the "intermediate-advanced" label. I experienced similar with my 15m Turbine but for a lightwind conditions you have more time to trim. Nice but a bit scary feature

Thanks, Grig. I am interested in the 13M so glad to hear you have flown it.

How was the kite stability in very light air?
For example, I have both SS Wave and SS Rally kites. I find the Wave to be superior at staying airborne in lulls that are too light to kite. The Rally is more prone to pitch forward below 10mph if you are not paying attention to the kite.

I wanted to get the Turbine for snowkiting, in particular, where my 12 Rally just doesn't have enough for deep snow light conditions. For snowkiting you are usually also dealing with gusty wind (lulls to yank in .5 seconds ) so your comment about minimal depower available raises a flag. Thanks for any input. :thumb:
