The only music I need is the rush of the wind and the roar of the waves.

I just use my old cell phones as MP3 players, and use dry pack bag with waterproof headphones. For 30 bucks you can have the bag and the headphones

I just found a cheap chinese one on Amazon, came with headphones for $10 and hasn't failed me yet. It's taken some heavy impacts from waves, but only surfing not kiting... I don't like to block the sound out when kiting for some reason.

I double bag my mp3 player to keep it dry and using Snuggbuds Wet for ear buds. I rinse everything in fresh water if using them in salt water.

I've had a waterproof iPod nano from underwater audio for 3 years. I use it for swimming where it is completely submerged for 30-60 minutes at a time. No problems whatsoever! There is no lame case to deal with. I don't use it kiting but you could just slip it under your wetsuit collar.

Not for me. I've had too many experiences where windsurfers, PWCs, boats, and even a powered paraglider came up on me where I could not see them, but I heard them and could avoid them. In the case of the paraglider, I was starting to make my transition bringing the kite to 12, and I heard the light hum of his engine idling. If I had proceeded my kite would have hit him with dire consequences.

Hope you had words with him.
