Old Takoon bar

I was showing a friend how to set up his kite, it is an ca 2007 takoon. The bar had this strange 10 cm plastic tubing with a ball on each end, that the chicken loop rope went through. And this tube went through the bar. Does anyone know this system? Seems strange that the bar only has 10 cm of depower throw.?

It looked kind of like this, only the thing that says "elastic string to prevent..." was the plastic tubing.

Its just a piece of rubber tubing, to prevent wear on the depower line. I've never had a problem with it :)

So the tubing is supposed to slide up and down the depower line?

Look what I found out of the depths of the 240p youtube era:

Seems like the tube indeed slides over the depower rope. But if you want to use such ancient piece of equipment is another question.... i would put it in the curiosa corner of the kiteboarding museum.

I still have one
The depower rope slides inside the tubing .
The bar itself is a lovely piece of carbon and is still in great shape after 10 years
That plastic lump with a screw on it is a kind of stopper . If you need to you can push it past the expanded bit of depower
I rejigged mine to be a standard by adding a ring and some longer y pieces to the centre lines .
