This subject has been discussed before but the thread sort of wandered off into the ozone soooo...
I and my good woman have finally shed the yolk of tyranny and are looking to retire to a kite spot in Portugal. Portugal because they currently are offering wonderful deals to foreigners willing to add their pensions to the GDP.
As we will need to stay in Portugal for at least 181 days a year we would like to find a spot that optimally has kiteable conditions for much of this period.
The wish list includes. Flat water
Medium to small community
warm water.
Affordable. When you stop working the money stops as well (shame about that)
I realize no place is perfect but I would appreciate suggestions for places to check out.
We are currently riding our recumbent tandem bike from north to south. We just left Figueira da Foz. We are pretty easy to spot so if you see a couple of old farts on a weird looking bike say hi. Obviously we aren't carrying any kite gear on this trip.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
regards,
Griz

Can't help with locations in Portugal, but wanted to say that you guys sound awesome.
Imagine my parents retiring to kite.
Good luck in your kite retirement!

Hello, come to Algarve. You have one of the best spot in Portugal just near Faro, sea on one side and lagoon on the other side. The Algarve is very turistic during the summer but its empty in the winter.

Hi Griz,
Keep me posted on what you find. I'm still thinking of Lagos, but have not had the time to go there yet. Have some years to go anyway...

Hi Grizwald, I have considered Portugal myself but have no experience of the country but everyone I have spoken to loves it there .
Have you looked at Penich on the West coast ?
Also a friend went to the Eastern Algarve and liked it there.
Our plan is to Travel by Motorhome to Find the Best spot .

Lagos its more for windsurfers, very strong offshore wind, not so good for kitesurf.

Yes, but it's close to Alvor that has a Lagoon?

Yes, Alvor has a lagoon but also has the same gusty wind.
