Lots of other possible conclusions. How about the simple, obvious one. That CONTINUED use of the supplement makes no difference. Says nothing about the initial changes that might have occurred.
What data is available that there is initial period of benefit, and what is that duration??!
Placebos also have initial 'benefit', which means you feel good. and then the real symptoms resume.

For the OP, not enough methods to have cartilage re-grow to its original form and function.
For the active people (repetitive trauma), which are all the subscribers of kiteforum and other activities, keep limber with stretching and muscle tone maintenance is important.
Wear and tear happens with use. Family history of arthritis can increase your risk.

Try a Vegan diet. This minimizes the triggers for autoimmune diseases. You would be surprised at how much milk is in the average diet. Some documentaries on the topic: What the Health, Forks Over Knives, Plan Eat, etc.
I used to have knee and hip pain, but now no more. I used to get tired after a session of kitesurfing, but now no more. After 3 days, I felt the positive effects of a Vegan diet, and those effects have only improved with time.

The best things for joints is a ketogenic diet for a few weeks followed by a 3-6 day water fast. Let your livers innate intelligence fix your body through abandonment of carbs for a brief period. Its how mammals have complete restoration when injured in the wild. :)
That right there. Dark green plants and fats. When your body shifts out of glycolysis into lipolysis you can heal any number of soft tissue injuries more quickly.

Anchovies packed in oil and avocados are your best friends for this project :-)

I've been using Green Lipped mussels for years, Cheaper than Glucosimine, plus has other properties.
Green Lipped mussels are good for your heart with EPA & DHA Omega 3 Phospholipids, also EPA and DHA have powerfull anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Green lipped mussels are also high in glycosaminoglycans (natual glucosimine).

Positive reports from Ketogenic and Vegan diets, almost polar opposites that have 2 thing in common:

1) You will drop 10 pounds (probably the most important thing)

2) You will hunger for a hamburger with both the meat and bun so bad your knees and back won't seem so important.

I have also noticed great improvement in many indicators of health after restricting my diet.

Low impact exercise such as yoga or walking is also one of the best thing you can take for your joints. The body needs exercise every day, just like food and water.
