High wind surfboard to add to my nugget

Postby keviene » Wed Oct 18, 2017 5:12 pm

Hi there,

Need a recomendation, my quiver is 2015 Dice 10m 2017 dice 7m and also an ancient 2009 Evo 12m.
Right Now i have a 5’2 Nugget and a XRide 141x41.

I’m proggresing and enjoying a Lot my nugget, is my board to go right now, but when the wind picks up it bécame a bit of a handfull, very bouncy and difficult to hold the power, so i’d like to add a (cheap) surfboard for high wind (+20 knots) to continúe learning (right now im practicing jibes and switching my feet)
I usually ride un the south of Spain, so not big waves...
What do you think? Thx!

North Wip CSC 2017 is my fav board now. Upwind machine, easy controlled and not to bouncy when is chopy I own celerites, duke and other boards but for small fun waves is the WIP CSC. THis board is not for light wind sessions.

If you are riding strapless, just find a used cheap surfboard about the right volume and ride it till it breaks. Repeat as necessary until you find the shape you like. Then buy a better more expensive board.

Not a specific recommendation. But, you should try a lot of boards before buying one. And definitely don't just go with the most popular recommendation you get from this thread. Surfboard choice is very personal. It depends a lot on your conditions and how you ride. So, you'll find there's a ton of boards out there that will work for you and many that you'll hate. You'll find friends love boards that you hate and the other way around. So try as many boards as you can!

From what you have said, characteristics in a board that you might look for include:
- normal, narrower tail
- thinner rails
- narrower board than the Nugget

And then you're going to find that your preferences change as you progress... Surfboard are a horrible addiction...

Tejanos for the replys, more info i weight around 80-85kg. The main spot Were i ride have choppy conditions.

The order day i tried the new whip pro csc 2018 in tarifa for one hour, flato and choppy conditions. It was the 5,4 (they didnt have the 5,2 in that moment) i really like the board, but the lowend or buoyancy found it very similar to my nugget (it was not as bouncy as my nugget)
I’ll try to test otero Boards before buying

If you like North surfboards look for a used Kontact...this one (2014) is just an example of the shape you are looking for...any Kontact from 2012 to 2017 would work
North don't make Kontact anymore for 2018 year
Great board for high wind/chop/waves etc

My high wind big wave board is the Naish global. Provides a ton of control in high wind and high speed. In general you are looking for a much more narrow board than what you have. One of the stand out features of the global is the tail rocker IMO. Makes you able to really dig the tail in for a great off the top or even just a nice spray on a little wind chop.

Get an Ocean Rodeo Duke. Ive owned or tried a lot of different boards and it by far is best rounded board out there, in my mind. I was strapless today in cold (dense wind)30 plus knots, what a gas. Rips upwind, super stable, tough as nails.

naish boards are retardedly expensive, therefor you can't depend on people's opinion of them. No one is going to asmit they dropped twice as much money on a piece of shit board that rides similar to another for half the price. Plus, taunt hasn't ridden aNY thing but naish since the late 90's anyway.
