While learning to kite in 2001 I found Hung's website. Without his advice and website I would have probably not have learned to kitesurf. He was always ready to give advice. The one bit of instruction that helped me was when being overpowered on a 2 line kite to edge as hard as you can upwind and slowly move the kite overhead. Had some really scary moments. I still refer people who ask me about kitesurfing to his website.

Thank you for the input! We could use some help. Does anyone have some full-resolution kiting or beach photos of Hung Vu from the early days (1998 to 2001 or so) in the DR , Maui , Tampa or Ottawa? I have written tribute to his impressive accomplishments for the kitborder magazine but we’re having trouble finding photos to go with suitable for print. If you can help please email me at flkitesurfer at hotmail. Thanks!

Yep - a big thanks to Hung.
Got me thru in a time where a large percentage who tried kiting gave up due to the danger and difficulty.
Certainly most including me had no idea what we were trying to do.
Is there still a version of his site as it existed back then?

I am just seeing this and am so sad to hear this news.
I had never met Hung Vu, but we here in Seattle used his website like THE kiteboard bible back when we formed the Seattle Kitesurfing Association here in Washington State, USA. I referenced it all the time.
RIP Hung Vu. You are a legend!

I started kiteboarding in 2000 on myself without an instructor. Hung Vu web site was every day visited in trying to know or learn what I don't know and it was really helpful. I am sad to know that he passed away in May of 2017,...rip.
