with all due respect....
I love how some try to compare apples and eggs ...
No Sri lanka is not Brazil, and I honestly pray that we dont become a Brazil
Sri Lanka has a history over 6000 years, from north to south it is around 440km and west to east is around 220km. A coastal belt of around 1400km.
This means you can switch between coastlines within few hours. Example from Kalpitiya to Arugambay to catch some great waves, it will take you around 7hours by taxi.
Sri Lanka has just more than Wind to offer, if you open up ( when you land at the airport) and let all your sences experience Sri Lanka, you will fall in love with the place.
Kalpitiya Laggon and also the Kalpitiya Ocean ( during the windy season) is not turquoise like Maldives, but that has reasons for it. The laggon is a home to many , to name a few:
- healthy lagoon crabs
- Delicious lagoon prawns and many fish art
This also mean that you will not find the perfect ground as in maldives or for that matter Egypt.
And for all those who complain about "Gusty wind" in Kalpitiya , I can only say, that they have not really witnesss gusty wind conditions, if they complain about it. Sure it is not 100% contant, but thats a part of the game. If you need 100% constant wind, then you can spend a day/ night at the magic island : https://vimeo.com/215609728
All in all, you will always have people who like one thing and the others who likes exactly the opposite. Sri lanka is not boring...it has diversity and diversity means, nothing is perfect over there. And if you ask me, I wish ( also for generations to come) it stays like that
