Hi,
Will be travelling to Portugal in June or July. (We can be flexible on dates within those months).

Am considering either Guincho or the beaches further north, Viana, Moledo etc.

Does anyone have experience of these locations?

Guincho seems to be potentially more windy? But possibly gusty?.

Is Viana significantly less windy?

There seem to be more spots around Viana and some lagoons where as Guincho seems more limited and maybe crowded that time of year?

I dont mind flat water or waves. Would June or July be windier?

Viana is a thermic wind spot, the warmer the more wind...
Summer months are the best wind warranty

Guincho is indeed crowded, has massive shorebreak and reasonable to good surf. You need to be an advanced rider.

In July and August it is windy as f**k.

Don't know about Viana.

Viana's bay is very large and has less crowd hence way more space to play in Viana than in Guincho. Guincho can be very crowded and can be gusty AF. Esposende is a short drive south of Viana and is a great area to kite too. I find Moledo, located north of Viana, to often be quite gusty. Viana and Esposende are great spots with Viana usually offering most frequent wind.

Guincho:
-quand le vent est fort , en général 9 ou 7 m voir 5m.
-à marée haut il y a du shorebreak.
-en milieu d'après midi il y a beaucoup de monde (trop).
-Quand il y a de la houle , les vague sont bien plus haute qu'une personne!!!

conclusion : spot exclusif pour surfer expérimenté de grosses vagues!
si vous êtes avec un twintip, oublier Guincho.

Forget Guincho with a TT. Even more so if you´re not VERY experienced with ultra-strong and ultra-gusty wind (40-50 kts in summer is more the rule than exception).
This spot is very, very challenging and dangerous on land (gusts, rocks) and in the water (high, powerful surf, no exit other than the rather small beach, only huge rocks up and downwind).
Also, there´s not much space on the beach, particularly in summer, with a nice group of rocks right in the middle of the beach.

I have been hitting Guincho in summer and loved it! It is gusty, but that depends on the direction of the Nortada: the more it swings to the W the better for Guincho.

Is not an easy spot, but really nothing to worry about. Just avoid heading too South close to the rocks and watch out for sudden drops of wind. Waves can be head high, but they are swell driven so plenty of time between sets. And in summer they are not huge.

Also not seen those crazy crowds either. You do get people on the water but nothing major and there is still plenty of space.

Wind blows all the time, one of my favorite spots for sure!
