What's your favorite way to protect your feet from unseen sharps underwater?
Vibram Signa

Scroll towards the bottom to see my Vibram Signa review. There's also some good info about the Swiss socks.

I have been trying the Darkfin booties. They are 0.5mm latex/rubber

They are thin enough that you can still feel the prickles of the sharp stuff in the water but thick enough that stuff doesn't seem to penetrate into the foot. The downside is they still slip around inside your footstraps as much as neoprene boots (my main complaint with boots). They would probably work a lot better for strapless as they don't remove board sensation.

For really sharp stuff I often wear jelly shoes to wade in and out and then clip them onto the back of my harness once I have body dragged out beyond standing depth. Looks dorky but it works

for me It took me 16 years to find the ideal bootie at a good price, one that was soft and pliable that did not twist, one that prevented the fine grit and stones from getting inside, one that stayed on even in the fastest hardest wipe out, all with enough feel to make them unnoticeable when worn, and of course really easy to get on and off, this one has a rubber bump on the heel so you can grip them tightly to slip on in one pull, they are so cheap you can buy 3-4 pairs for the price of a pair of less good ones from a kite gear outlet.
you can pop into your local Decathlon to try them on, I go for one size smaller than my shoe size so they are skin tight all over, no water sloshing around or slippage.

That looks like an enormously thick sole. Is it as fat as it looks? I tend to stay away from booties with thick soles. It feels like I'm wearing sneakers. Plus you have to loosen up your foot straps to fit them in and then if you step in barefoot you're swimming.

Most booties do look like this, though. I like a thin slick sole. Slides in and out of straps easy, great board feel, etc.

Thanks for the suggestion, though. I got interested by your description but the image kinda scared me off. Will look around and see if I can find them in the states, though. You seem to love 'em.

it's quite a thin sole, what you can see is the sole moulding extending up the sides, not the sole itself, the pebbles on the beach still hurt if there is a sharp one.
and the sole bends easily, very soft and pliable, stiff soles are awful no feeling at all and stick in the footstraps.

I dunno as long as you have an oyster dick protector I think you are fine.

Don't ask. You might need eye bleach after reading this.

Thanks. I gave them a search, but found only one vendor shipping in the U.S. and they don't have my size.
I'll keep an eye out for them.

I saw that story come up today (which is bullsh*t worldnews clickbait not worth your time) and the opening picture cracked me up.
Someone searched the internet until they found a picture with a vag looking clam.
