In the time I have been learning and contributing here, I have found Toby to be in the lead of what is pretty much the last free forum on this planet.
I agree. But I think Toby is a bit too tolerant of ram lovers and their propaganda.

That was a good one PMU 😀

These are the last things I want to do:
- Delete or edit a message or topic
- Ban a user

But sometimes I don't have a choice.

What for sure gets delete are commercial postings...you want to make money selling products? I need to make money too, so don't use my site for free.

And that's my daily job...making it right for everyone...trust me...not easy!

There should be no moderation.

I understand regulating commercial posts, as it's a business. But why control or try to control what people say? If people fight, let them fight. If you don't like it, look somewhere else.

If someone goes beyond the written law, as in life threatening, bullying, crime apology or illegal associations, anyone can report it to the police. Then the police, if interested in the case, will say what to do.

No matter how "justified" the Mod feels deletions and bans are, they are to his taste which run counter to a specific segment of the kiting spectrum.

This forum is now pretty openly disinterested in unhooked kiteboarding. There has long been dissent towards things like boots, kickers, rails, and the general direction of professional freestyle competition beyond about 2005. It's not very subtle to anyone beyond beginner.

This has never been a welcoming place for those interested in discussing anything that falls under the umbrella of unhooked riding. Those people don't stick around and the ones that do or complain are edited and eventually weeded out. By now, nearly all of the longstanding members left share the mods general bias.

It's strange for a dedicated sport forum to foment distain for its own elite level. It has likely limited lucrative manufacturer engagement and most definitely robbed the forum of energy, youth, content, and virtually all pro level rider input.

All in the name of making it better for the majority.

We had tons of pros. And still have. But some are just too cool for kiteforum and their "kooks".
And my people are not kooks, they are beginners like all of us were at one point.

Look at the forum where the "pros" and wannabees went...dead.

A good forum needs moderation. How much it gets moderate is up to the users, not the Moderator.
There are guidelines, which are very reasonable.
Don't spam, don't hate, respect and enjoy.

Simple.

Wish those guidelines applied to the rest of our lives. :(
