Strangely this reminds me of the Deviant Fin:

Even the marketing is similar about increasing the speed and performance on the wave.
The Quobba fins are designed to give board riders more speed and greater flexibility on the wave
Surfers riding the Deviant Fin experience noticeably higher speeds throughout the duration of their turns, a tighter turning radius and quicker rail-to-rail maneuvering

Has anyone tried these? They are reduced in price right now ($110 USD), looks like they had solid reviews over on the aussie forum - Seabreeze. I'm interested in them for kiting and SUP surfing.

I have a set on a Firewire Vader. My strapless skills are - ok - so take my opinion fwiw. I really haven't had a great session on them in good surf but have ridden them in HR Gorge swell, & lake chop. I have ridden them back to back to my other fins which I liked really well. They are faster & there is something to them that is positive vs my other fins. I will continue riding them because I like them better & like the feel in the way they carve & cut back. I really can't wait to get them on legit waves but right now its snowkite season so it'll be a while.

It's a shame the hype in the link above has to throw in that "turbo" fable especially since they claim to be studied and developed a long time.
In that time the inventor should have learned what a turbo is (hint: not surf fin). Also the suction theory is not usually seen as legit.
But if they work, they work and the reason would be that the waterflow in the inch of water next to the board is quite different from the water flow near the fin tip and in the middle of the fin.
Some good hydrofoil masts are thick at the root for the same reason (as well as for rigidity). Is a fence needed, as on the quobbas? Dont know.
