Any chance we could get WRF weather forecast ? Right now the most accurate forecast in igetwind.com is HRR. It's very accurate but I've noticed that WRF would be even more accurate.

yes the HRRR is made by NOAA from a WRF run, it seems the WRF and it,s derivative are accurate in california, here in montreal it's not the best.

https://nomads.ncep.noaa.gov/txt_descri ... _doc.shtml

From my understanding there is no pure WRF data from noaa, they use it to produce HRRR an RAP, so I would have to make my own run of wrf ... a big project!!!

Hi my name is Grégoire Lafortune, I'm a wind enthousiast and software developer from Montreal Canada.

Since 2016 I'm working on a new project : iGetwind.com. It's a wind/waves/tides forecast web application for kitesurfers and windsurfers worldwide. North America gets models HRRR, NAM, GFS, HDPRS and europe gets ICON-EU and GFS. Plus waves/tides and GFS forecasts for the entire world.

I invite you to try it and send me feedback :

https://igetwind.com

Thanks

Grégoire

Hi IDAVIS, thanks for your comment.

You can add all these spots on your page just by clicking on the map OR do a text search.

Then if you are login you have the possibility to add a spot to igetwind so everyone else can see it on the map.

New for 2022 You can now mix a REALTIME wind graph in your spot list. There is 40K wind stations around the world (thanks NOAA) that you can choose from. You can organize your 8 forecasts and realtime wind graph in your preferred order. Good season to you all!

+1... although I was initially sceptical, as the name reminded me a little bit of "I got worms", the site & forecast data is very impressive :thumb:

The three different types of swell seem a bit excessive or confusing to me. But I'm in the process of learning to surf so I don't have much idea. Can somebody explain the use (not the differences) for three ? Otherwise it seems nice, I'll give it a try.

If you want to understand waves you need to make the difference between "ground swell" and "wind swell". The wind swell is what we also call Tchop, It is short wave created by the wind and it usually produce very short period waves the are poor for surfing.

The ground swell comes from the "wind swell" but after it traveled hundreds or thousands of kilometers. Thats creates more period between each wave and the waves go deeper in the ocean so when it hit the reef it has more power, that creates cleaner surfable waves.

Here in igetwind you can see the wind swell that is created locally by the wind - not very good for surf and usually with a very low period < 10 seconds

And then you have 2 others ground swell that are the ones coming from far and sometimes have greater period > 10 seconds.

Take note that to have good quality surf wave you usualy need longer period > 12 seconds.
