Removing water from board using a refer compressor?

I have a surf board with water in it. I have read about using a refrigerator compressor to remove the water, but I am not sure how to make the seal air tight to the compressor. As far as I can tell, it need to tape some plastic sheeting around the damaged area and it needs to be air tight. How do I hook up the compressor to suck out the water? I have not been able to find this info when searching online.

Never heard of that. Normally just opened the hole and put somewhere warm for a while. A friend had an idea to dry kites by hooking up a dehumidifier to an airtight box. Maybe could work same for a board?

Be careful with vacuum. If the board will be sealed (no air can get in at some point), the vacuum will smash the board like a pancake....

I guess you have a styrofoam core. This foam is nasty when it comes to remove water.

What I would suggest. Find yourself a frigde motor. You also will need a marmelade or pasta glass with a metall cap.

Two pieces of 6mm brass tubes, a little bit 5 minute epoxy and 6mm platic tube, tape and dark plastic foil, the darker the better,
a piece of thick clear plastic foil.

Drill 2 - 6mm holes in the metall cap. Glue two 6mm brass tubes in the holes. The glas will be the water trap. Slip the tubes
over the brass tubes.
Connect one -> pump to glas. Connect the other to the pump. Open the demaged part of the board. You have to repair it lateron anyway.

Now things get tricky. I don't know what type a material to seal the board you have in your country.

Sealing can be done either with acrylic or silicone, double stick tape. We have both, acrilic and silikon in plastic tubes 750ml.

Avoid if possible the use of silikon. Cover with tape widely the demmaged area with tape to prevent the "sealing" sticking to the board.

Add a track of arcilic rectangular around the demaged area on the tape. Fix the tube on the board so it will not pop of. Cover the end of the tube
with toilett paper, so the vakuum can not suck the foil in.

Place your clear foil on the acrylic track. Start the pump. Cover the board with the dark foil so it heats up. Let the thing run a week or
so.

The only problem you will face is, if you use silikon for sealing. I any case prevent the stuff to get in contact with the board.

This technique is proven to work, but needs time to get the water out

So easy!
Make a couple holes to the core well placed and put in black plastic trash sacks taped together, no need for air tight in fact better if not.
Place in sun control heat by knowing temp resistence of your core and laminate, should not be a problem.
You will find condensation inside from water escaping board, do this until you find none.
Place so each side sees sun and angles for water to escape.
Can take days.

If you are going the vacuum route. It is probably as cheap and easier to get a cheap one new or from ebay. You can google how to make one from a fridge there are tons of videos. It is technically illegal to remove a compressor from a refrigerator unless you are a licensed handler because you will vent freon.

if your patient: use silica-gel (ca. 100g/3oz) put it in the open wound and cover it up air thight. Let it sit ideall at a warm place for 2-3 weeks, check silica gel for saturation.
and if you're a geek, don't forget the humidity sensor inside to track the progress

and if it was saltwater, rinse the board first with fresh water (salt water evaporates worse)

Long long time ago....Had 8 ft windsurf epoxy board with EPS foam core that took in water...had gained 2.5 lbs
Drilled one hole at tip and one at tail
A friend had made a motorized spinner and nearly all the water shot out of board...2 lbs of water came out in one hour
When done i re-filled the holes with epoxy and was good to go

Can anyone point me toward where to get the black cone that is on the plastic sheeting? Is this part of a vacuum bag?
