Flysurfer Peak4 kites combined with a surf foil
Took up foiling 2 years ago, and after the pain of learning after being a competent kitesurfer for nearly 20 years, began to experience the joy of silent flight on the foil. It was great fun but something was missing in the kite department. Inflatable kites needed more drift than they were capable of to deal with the glide of the foil, especially on waves. And if you looped an inflatable there would be too much power and you could then outrun the wave. Smaller twin skin foils had a bit more drift but the depower and turning was slow, also interfering with wave riding.
Then I read the thread started by Horst about the Peak4 viewtopic.php?f=197&t=2401224
He reviewed a 3m Peak4 on a surf foil and thought it good enough to have its own thread. Others also tried the Peak4 and raved about it. I was a Flysurfer dealer and Peak4 kites were half the price of an inflatable kite so I got a 3m Peak4 and tried it out for myself. Initially I was wary as there was no guarantee it would relaunch if I dropped it. However once I had 10 minutes on the kite I got used to how it flew and found it had just what I was looking for, massive drift, instant depower and it turned fast, really fast! Maybe the 3m Peak4 was just a fluke so I got the 5m Peak4 for lighter winds. It was amazing, it did all the things I wanted even in less than 10 knots
I've also got an 8m Peak4 now for well under 10 knots.
So the Peak4 plus foiling has reignited kitesurfing for me. I can foil in wind I would have never gone out in before because it meant a big slow kite and just being able to stay upwind on a TT or surfboard. And it's not often that a kite can be such a fantastic gamechanger and be cheaper than virtually all other kites. I've also sold many Peak4 kites, and without exception, all buyers have been extremely happy with the kite.
Thanks Horst Sergio, thanks Flysurfer and thanks to those who developed hydrofoils to where they are today
