Mouth Mount for GoPro, high probability of injury the face?

Postby heisenberg135 » Tue Sep 18, 2018 9:44 pm

Hi Guys, I talk About this type of mounts:

Image

I want to buy one of this, but my question for the people that already use this type of mount is: Don't kick your face/ teeth when you fail a trick, or you fail a high jump?

I mean, the go pro is heavy, and if you fall with high speed I think that the go pro can hit your face... Also I think that your teeth can be damage with this... Some experience?

Thanks

I use it all the time.
No problem.

Jake Kelsick shoots most of his videos with it too.

I like the footage with this mount, but I'd say it's impossible to leave it in your mouth for a long session, where do you guys leave it if not in your mouth? Tucked away under your lycra?

I find it ergonomic enough that your mouth doesn't get tired too quickly.

The good ones have a lanyard that you pass around your neck so that you don't lose it if you have to spit it out.
The problem is that mine is just a little too long; if I leave it hanging around my neck the GoPro hits the hook of my waist harness.

I just bite on the floater and have it on a necklace. I usually shoot for a couple of minutes, stash it away and take it out again when I want to film. I put it under a stretchy impact vest with front zipper.
A lycra over the wetsuit would be another option. In a video I saw Kevin Langeree putting it under the frontzipper of his wetsuit. That stretches the wetsuit a lot, so I would not do it with mine. I guess he does not care as he gets a number of new suits per season.
In the beginning I had mine dangling around like in the above post when I did not want to film and that bothered me in my riding. With the impact vest you do not notice it.

Thanks guys, having a lanyard round my neck doesn't sound that safe (getting washed in a wave and have it tangle around lines etc.) but I'll figure out how to attach it safely and stash it. Thanks!

If your lines are passing that close to your neck having a lanyard tangle in the lines should be the least of your worries :o

The ones that don't look like a snorkel (e.g. official gopro) fold and hook over the harness hook when not in use a lot easier. You can also use them as a tripod stand if you want to film stuff from a stationary point.
