No, we just get your views, all the time, normally by 500 words, but I see you have now taken to pictures.
Who made you the forum expert? Why should you tell me what a forum is for?

We are all so pleased you saw the light!

I just re-read the OP and it definitely says TT..............?
That's the thing about an open forum - you get some views that come from "outside the box" that the original question was stuck in.

I once thought the way the OP did. But yes, the OP should stay with a TT for now. Sometime in the future, expanding the OP's horizons could do for them what it did for me.

@ Taught, too true, too funny, my bad! These days, even great lakes dwellers usually have more than one.

@ Matteo,

I'll get flamed for this, and really did try not to comment, but some things must be said.

You are having fun..... good on you, but that is the kookiest shit I have seen since Toby's endless thread of the same old stuff recombined in the same old spot...

Hooked in, two hands on the bar, a LF fish on a slider, a kayak vest and socks in straps at a perfectly sandy beach. At first I actually thought it was a parody shot..... but then I realized.

Nobody should flame you for that. You are just saying what most other vanilla park riders are thinking. I will add that you forgot to mention that I am also wearing a shorty when it looks warm enough to to be in board shorts. I also am wearing a helmet which is uncool and kooky. On that helmet is orange duct tape for visibility which makes me extremely uncool. I am also not wearing boardshorts over my wetsuit to make me look more "metrosexual" by hiding my anatomical reason for "manspreading". Plus I also am wearing a seat harness while riding a rail when every "real" wakestyler is in a much more aesthetically pleasing waist harness (actually for mobility, not looks :))

So your statement is very much accurate since, by "coolness" standards, I get more than just some flak. My style is "like school in summer time". But only 2 out of 50 kiters at that location ride the rail, despite me trying to give them advice on how to approach it safely. (P.S. - there are only about 50 kiters that go to that lake and we have only had rails for about a year and a half there)

And don't worry as I do let onlookers know I am "doing it wrong". I actually have to explain that a lot with more than just my rail riding. Along with why I don't wear flat billed hats, and why I do wear a life jacket in fresh water, and why I do use booties all the time, and why I do wear a helmet all the time, and why I don't go strapless anymore except on a very rare occasion.

You just made my point. Good on you for presenting a dissenting view here. It is appreciated. And that is a completely sincere comment with no sarcasm intended.

So why are you here? Is it not to present your views in a effort to help others understand as well as have your views challenged to further your own understanding?

Hi, I was just taking the piss about the surfboard. Its more my philosophy of having many surfboards. I love the idea of one board for all, but its just not feasible since conditions I ride are so different.

OP I can see why someone who mainly rides TT would want multiple TTs. They are different, especially if you ride boots or if you ride the park and then want to go super powered mega looping. Some people have a dedicated light wind TT that are just a bit different, but enough to make a difference...some even have super light wind TTs (doors)...but the huge doors are the only board I have no desire to own or ride. Its just a personal thing.

I've probably mentioned this a couple of times before over the years, but here we go again. I should first say yes, sometimes a foil or surfboard is better, but the question here is about twin tips. I build my own boards and have built them with the same rocker, flex and outline curve, but one board was 136x38.5, while the other board was 136x43. There is a world of difference. Each cm of width is like adding a metre of kite size. If you are in a place with inconsistent winds its easier to swap board if the wind suddenly ramps up or drops off. Most of the discussion in this thread has been about board length, but it is actually width that maters most. A cm of width adds more area than a cm of length.

I really enjoy the locked in feel of being really powered on a narrow board for carving hard and setting an edge to boost. But in variable wind its a bit unforgiving to be on a small board. I'm about 160lbs and have a size 9 foot. A 200lb guy with size 13 feet might feel like he's setting the edge just as much on my bigger board, while I have trouble holding the edge and feel more bouncy as I get overpowered on the big board.

There is definitely a good reason to have 2 twin tips, but these day I rig a small kite and carry my foil and bigger twin tip out to the launch, again to have the ability to quickly change gear if the wind does the unexpected. You could also do it with a twin tip and something bigger like a surfboard or skimboard. But the real thing here is that if you have variable wind and launching and landing challenges changing boards and keeping the same kite during a session is by far the simplest option.

Here just to kill some time...

I remember discussion with you, even your fellow countryman is saying what's enough is enough. Your pics are so lame, proving nothing about the boards but how big your EGO is.

"Is it not to present your views in a effort to help others understand as well as have your views challenged to further your own understanding?" - err, no.

What's to understand about the taste?

I have two boards, one narrow, same as Toby's FS, 126x36 and one DIY 120x40 which I use 99% of time in all conditions, 15-40kn.

Simply put, Toby's taste is a small board for his 80+ kegs. For my taste 120cm board, 60kgs.

As Peter says, the world of difference, and when I'm on 7m with 36cm wide board, it's completely different game, or taste.

100kegs guys will never get this, maybe Toby does.

If you for some reason are quite keen on focusing on riding twintips, which is understandable just like I prefer to ride directionals now, having two regular shaped TTs makes a lot of sense.

One for really powered conditions where you can edge even more and cut through heavy chop, and because of being powered going upwind is not an issue, and when landing hugely powered kiteloops they land smoother even if "you" dont so to speak, and a smaller board feels more agile too.

And then a wider one, maybe or maybe not a bit longer, maybe or maybe not a bit more flat, for normal winds and overall general riding

An advantage could be, that if winds change a bit you can just jump in on the beach and take the other board - a luxury one will appreciate very fast, opposed to rigging another kite size :naughty:

It is a lot easier to have only one TT nowadays IMO, as in the early days the smaller ones were a lot better and didnt feel clumsy like the bigger ones - but today where they are wider and not longer and shaped well, the wider ones can work in all conditions except light/marginal winds, so you dont need two TTs like back then.

But you might still find the benefits of the "smaller" one you havent got yet, appealing.

Unfortunately I think there is only one way for you to find out

Personally I like to have several quite equal boards, with some slight differences, instead of very different boards.

i just bought a small twintip for $26, ( 132 39?)it reminded me why i used to ride them... when you are lit more control, lighter on your feet, ride a bigger kite for the wind.. boosting much...,smaller carving arc, less swing weight.

control at high speed very narriw boards rule too

tjis mightcexplain why the average speed of kiters has gone down so much when you watch.. as well as depower kites of course.

twin tips always were and always will god in kiteboarding imo

inexpensive, pack down small, super functional, multi purpose

to give you an idea.. a 2d kiteboard, deck only, costs around $85 US ( factory) and will last a very long time

encouraging twin tip riding is the key to getting more youth involved in kiting, industry i$nt going to do it, but i am saying it
