First flatwater experience!

I was out the other day in my "second" home spot, it's a u shaped beach set 90 degrees to the angle of my primary beach and has a harbour off to the side.

I'd never thought of kiting in the harbour but last weekend the wind was weird and there was a rock hazard downwind of me making me uncomfortable on the beach side.

As I was about to land I noticed a massive flat water section (almost a lagoon) caused by a harbour wall, so I hit it up and it was magnificent! I've only ever kited chop and waves, usually not big but there all the same.

Everything was so easy on flat water! Except for jumps without kickers, my load and pop is pathetic because I rarely practice it.

The slicks of Buxton OBX were my first ever real mirror flat water experience, and its a revelation. Simple things like maxing your G's into the corners while sending up a wall of water, tip slides, simple S turns. All so nice..

Downwinders in OBX can be incredible. Added to the slick component is the variety of channels, island hops, etc that make it really fun

We have a breakwall here at home that is now a favorite spot when the wind is south. Just one spot, so none of the downwinder appeal, but super fun when its on.

I've never kitted on flat water, just lake chop and swell. The only time its been smooth has been on the foilboard.

For TT riding, flat water or flat sections with clean kickers are underrated in my opinion. Everyone is always focusing on how windy certain spots are - wind is great, but if I have to choose between windy and choppy, or a bit less wind and flat sections, I'd choose option 2.

Flat water is sweet, like skiing corduroy, but I also love bump and jump conditions. I also find when the waves are good size the valleys in between are like glass, those are my favorite conditions, best of both worlds..

At times wind conditions are right for kiting on the leeward side of a causeway at my home spot. With the wind at 20 knots and a narrow board, the speed runs are incredible and you can hold an edge better in the flat water for spectacular boosting. Motorists stop along the causeway to watch the action. It's one of those rare sessions that keeps you stoked for about a week.

Jumping in flat water is so much easier. Take offs more predictable and landings a lot safer. I learned my down loop jibes and jumps from my bad side in obx flat water.

One of our spots is flat water on "gut" side or waves on "sound side.A 100 ft walk either way, guess we're spoiled! Had a 10 meter flatwater session today, very mellow, knees love it.
