Flew my friends 11m Naish Pivot (2018) at the weekend.... Wow!.. what a boosting kite and so easy to fly (coming from Naish Torch's), I really enjoyed just boosting all session on it. What sort of height are people getting on their Pivots ? I know Kevin Langree got 28.3m on a 9m in Cape Town. Really eyeing up a 9m (84kg) for the 30 to 40mph range, seems to boost as good as an ozone edge and other flatter kites.

Anyone riding a pivot then ?

Lots of us! You are late to the party. See thread from 2015. For me, at 87kg I go down to my 7m Pivot in that wind range, no way I can hold a 9m like Kevin does in Cape Town, but then I am a lot older and weaker and nowhere near as good a kitesurfer, plus I far prefer downwinders to struggling back upwind after big jumps (although once depowered the Pivots want to go back upwind). And the newer versions are apparently even better (mine are 2015 and 2016 kites, that is, first generation).

I can ride my pivot in that wind range, but I certainly do not ride it like Langeree. It gets very lit at about 35mph. I tend to ride it with a surfboard, and going off waves for boosting is pretty amazing. Its also an insanely good wave kite. A bit more grunty compared to the slash, but Pivot is just a super fun kite.

I have no idea what height I am getting. Feel high for me, but I'm not measuring.

Im loving my 10m pivot, great speed, boost and jumping, i will say my past naish park had a high wind range btu this doesnt. It feels more like a 11m kite. amazing kite though/.

In comparison to your Park your impression is spot on. You need to ride the Pivot 1m smaller to have the same windrange (that has been discussed many times since the kite was launched). I moved from 7/9/12 Park (2014) to 6/8/11m Pivot when it came out in 2015. I am riding the 2019 model now. I also have a 9m Dash. Similar windrange to my 8m Pivot, but a different character of course.

Do you guys find the quadtex ripstop improves flying characteristics and durability enough to warrant the extra price.(would be $850 for the 2018 but $530 usd for 2016 9m pivot)

This is a good question. I'd the piece difference 850? ...or 320? Are you comparing a new kite with a used?

I'd almost say yes either way but it depends a bit on your priority. If it's new vs new and 850 difference and you like cheaper price the most I'd probably say consider other features like updated design. If it's used vs new or used vs used and 320 is say easily go with the newer.

I like new features and developments. Quad Texas makes the kite feel crisp for longer. The kite feels tighter and more controllable in high wind.

I just spent $850 for a new 2018 11m Pivot. Hopefully it will replace my aging and worn, but much loved, 2012 Cabrinha Vector 12m. A friend has a 2016 11m and loves it. I read several comments here suggesting the 2017/2018 Pivot 11m feels more like a 12m. I'm too cheap to get a new 2109 Pivot.

The Cabrinha Vector has a larger diameter leading edge, which makes it a little hard going upwind, but that also makes it a very stable kite. Amazingly it performs well for most everything else, from jumping to drifting in waves to foiling, plus relaunches easily. I'm surprised they discontinued it, but presumably something in their lineup replaced it, but I'm too cheap for Cabrinha (I got the Vector used in 2013 for $800).

Back in the day I had two early Naish C kites and hated them. They flew badly and leaked all the time. I swore I would never buy from Naish again!

I was landing (catching) my buddies klte recently, and thought to myself, wow this kite feels soft and worn out. Then I realized my buddies kite was his brand new 2019 kite with double rip stop.

So YES, quadtex makes a difference. I’m spoiled by the stiff, crispy, feel of quadtex.
