this is aimed at people who are addicted to kitesurfing...they know what I am talking about ;-)

But the message is that you should go and live your dream...and don't be afraid of changes. You only have one life, so go for it.
Don't let life control you, control your life.

No one is the same...but some are similar...this is for them ;-)

All a matter of balance...

As much as I like kiting, and I admit being more addicted than most, and I would do that everyday if the weather was playing ball, there's only so much I can handle. 2hrs sessions are pretty much the max before the body complains, and for the remaining other hours, it's good to do other stuff, including engaging the brain in some engineering challenges, or do some creative stuff, as well as spending some non-kitesurfing time with my son.
Kitesurfing is a way to exercise, to feel alive, connected to the environment, to get resourced and re-energized for all the rest. If I was working in the kitesurfing industry, that probably wouldn't be the same, and it would lose some of those critical aspects.

I love the feeling of being free, and having the possibility to say f*** it, I'm going kiting/surfing/SUPing/... It just means my internal scheduler will reorganize my tasks according to what's the weather is throwing at me. It's a very liberating feeling actually. When Windguru has replaced your diary, you know you've reached the next level...
It also means that if for whatever valid reason, you don't get to go that day, it won't matter that much since another session is just around the corner.
Took some years carving some flexibility into work, establishing a beach lifestyle with a panel of adequate toys to cover most conditions, and sacrificing the odd girlfriend(s) who just didn't get it, but well worth it in the end.

Kiteboarding is the sport thats just keeps on giving. It's allowed countless of us in places without viable surf, to play in our own back yards.

With the variety of ways to kite, you practically don't even have to chase it that hard anymore to get out consistently.

It's the one sport that has evolved to better and better make our regional conditions a blast.

Half the satisfaction comes from scoring great conditions with only a handful of others and getting home to the gang without missing a beat.

Kiting can let you have your cake and eat it too. A real gift for the multitudes who are not going to model their lives around the season in the tropics, but rather model their sport to enrich the complex fabric or their lives wherever they may be.

I agree with Toby's underlying message. Discover what your passions are and chase them to the ends of the earth. You only have one life. Live it!

For many of us that involves more than a singular focus. Family, Job, sports all selected, nurtured, cultivated in an attempt to form our own personal nirvana.

Toby is an extreme niche specialist. He has taken a niche within a niche sport and applied more singular focus to that niche with a niche. He performs hooked in airstyle tricks only on the starboard tack only with an 18m kite on a flat water lagoon. He has become the world leader in this specific extreme niche. I applaud his dedication to his chosen passion.

Many people I guess will go through life without harnessing and chasing their passions. I feel sorry for those people.

We use to have a poster that said

You’re born. You die.
If you’re lucky somewhere in between you live.

Don’t wait to be lucky, go find it.
