They don’t give a damn if riders kill themselves and a death will result in even more publicity, more media coverage. Win-win?
The internet..hey..

Who is going to replace Steven Akkersdijk? Any rumors?

Edit: Oh I guess Janek Grzegorzewski since he is now on the king of the air website.

From his FB page
In the past 2 weeks I painted the sidewalk red, destroyed my foil including myself, got admitted to a hospital and been operated on.

Long story short: Due to a huge cut in my foot I had a big infection in the ankle joint which needed to be operated on. During the operation they found that i also had a partially cut extensor tendon.

What does this mean? 6 weeks in a boot and after that another 6 weeks to get my strength and mobility back.
In other words… I am out for Red Bull King of the Air!

As you can imagine I’m super bummed I can’t compete. On the other hand I’m making plans and staying positive.
2019 Is going to be a year I’ll never forget!

We had a bit of a preview today along Bloubergstrand. Epic conditions, see graph below and big swell. As usual on a day like this I can barely hold onto my 7m, while Kevin Langaree was out around 18:00 on 9m, and then around 19:00 on 8m. Lots of huge jumps including his signature foot out of one strap move. Lots of other guys going big, including Janek Grzegorzewski, who is a tiny guy compared with Kevin, but was doing some huge jumps with lots of spins, albeit not landing them all. That's something really impressive about Kevin. I must have watched him do several hundred jumps now over the years, and I've never seen him crash, always making controlled smooth landings. We should have similar conditions again tomorrow, perhaps the final practise day. The towers and flags and everything are all set up and ready to go, maybe on Sunday for the first day.

Blistering conditions the last 2 days. It's been a while since I've seen Langebaan Main Beach cleared out of riders - bar a few of course 8)
Sadly the forecast for the next week is not looking great. That said it's probably less than ideal (or safe) to run a competition like this in 35knot :o
