Kite line re-coating

Postby gator1 » Mon Dec 31, 2018 11:41 am

My kite lines are losing the coating in some parts but still in good condition in other areas.

Is there any proven coating kiter's use to re-coat lines.

I've heard of Primelines but was thinking of a product that's similar to the original coating vs just a wax. Polyurathane spray?

If its the part where they rub because of looping.... I take a candle, rub it on the areas, then close my hand around the line and move up and down repeatingly. The parafin then nicely melts on/in the line. Works good enough for me.

Time to replace. A broken line in a best case scenario is a swim in and a missed session. No fun.

Cut out the worn areas and splice new loops. Use the healthy line as an extension set for light winds.

Time to replace.
"...on the strength of one link in the cable,
dependeth the might of the chain,
who knows when thou mayest be tested,
so live that thou bearest the strain."

You don't fix kiteline, you replace it. Period.

I believe that maintenance can make your lines live longer if do it before they are worn out.

As stated above make some extensions, or make a short lineset.

Make into jewelry

Or bin them

Not all do the extreme kiting and the old lines will do good for most of us!
I did use the candle on different lines and it works well for me.

Guys like Bill should just keep it to them self and watching what he feel like!
