Switch Krypto?

Postby pj sofine » Sun Jan 06, 2019 5:25 pm

In my thread about the new rpm's one rider mentioned the Krypto as an alternative to the rpm. Never heard of that kite before. I searched threads and it was stated that it was available back in late Sept. Any reviews by actual riders?

Not really comparable... Krypto is a 5 strut bridled C that can be ridden 5th line.

Ok thanx, the description compared it to the dice,fx etc. Looks similar shape but with the extra struts. How did you find the handling , power turns, loops etc compared to what other kites you've used?

I haven't ridden it. My guess is it's like a C4. Dice and FX are a bit more allround.

My apologies, the comparison might have come from me. I haven't tried the kite, but I'm tempted. I'm waiting for more reviews from regulars. I'm not in a big hurry as I'm not going to buy a new kite until the spring. I'm thinking about getting into unhooked riding, but usually want a fun to fly kite which can boost good. The Switch Krypto may be more C kite than I want or need. Hopefully some more reviews come out.

Would love a 5 strut Bandit. Love that kite, but don't like the FLAP FLAP FLAP when it turns depowered.

Both the Krypto and RPM are very freestyle/wakestyle/unhooking capable kites though they will feel and perform differently. RPM's profile is much more open while Krypto's is basically a C (bridled or can be ridden 5 line C). Since the wing tips on the Krypto are deeper, kiteloops on the should feel proper and more exciting than on the RPM.
RPM, FX and Dice will have better low end due to their more open profile and less weight per size since they are all 3 struts.
The shape reminds of the older bridled Chaos and C4...probably performs similar to those kites.

I tried Switch's previous model C kite, the Legacy, and it had excellent relaunch, boost and hang-time. Legacy's downfall was it turned/looped super slow.
Watching Marc Jacobs videos loop the Krypto the turning speed is significantly better. Hoping to get a 10m at some point this year... looks like a sweet kite from switch

Not sure but i wouldn't be surprised if he designed some kites for SS at one point.
Bill Hansen has been around for a long time and designed stuff for Wikipa, Wainman, Eclipse and many other brands. Here is an old post about him: https://www.kiteforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=2358258

Read some comments on an Australian forum and one poster said the krypto was just a copy of the Ikon Blind. Never heard of Ikon, are they affiliated or was he just trolling ?
