static content?
what about any news site in the world...is it static?
Here a version not bold...
I like the non bold version. This going in a good direction! (I liked robclaisse version best. Left column right aligned, right column left aligned)
On the other issue: Is this a news site? No. It is a forum. A forum is characterized by its organizational structure. This sets it apart from other sites and well contributes to its success.
Why be like everyone else, when what you have is working so well, attracting so much attention, getting so many interested and motivated people together?
Think about how well the news section worked out? It didn't. You ended up deleting it...

for me having the forum name on the left I can faster scan what could be of interest for me due to the forum name in front...
More opinions please!

There's too much space between the forum name and topic title. As a result it looks like 4 independent columns.
Narrow the space and it should be fine

And can you do the last one, with the forum names on the left BUT right aligned in that column? Small change but I think its easier to scan through.

And I think we can make it dynamic in a way that the less width the window has the less Text will be shown, to a certain degree that we switch to one column only and cut down the number of topics shown (basically mobile view).
And we will make the forum name clickable.
That’s a great compromise for what has been mentioned before by kitehh that he needs a click more now to access forums due to the new drop down...since I assume 99% of the time he wants to enter a forum with one link he will be able to.
Comments ?

Nah. That won't work, as you can see right now.
Almost all trending topics are in kitesurfing as it is the most active forum. What you are basically building now (with quite some effort) is a direct mirror of the kitesurfing subforum.
Why?

Again, I want to see all latest.
And it’s not always from kitesurfing.
If you want just kitesurfing, just bookmark that forum.
Why would you use the home?

I agree with Toby, yes Kitesurfing is the most popular, particularly today but some days it's more balanced with other categories. I also think that without this kind of homepage most people will probably end up just posting everything kitesurfing so atleast it highlights there are sub-forums for different topic areas.

Why would you use the home?
Because it is easy to type in and (used to) give me a great overview of what i want to dive into.
Now that that's gone I will sadly need to figure out a good way to access all the content. And that includes even smaller forums rhat don't get the rogue attention of the masses.

Exactly my point. If only kitesurfing gets highlighted people will (rightly so) post there, because it is the best way to get attention.
Therefore the other subforums need a constant (and btw equal!) highlighting by being named on the homepage at all times. Otherwise they will vanish, just like others already did.
The trending topics as major part cannot consistently do this highlighting. Somedays its balanced (good). Somedays its not (bad). It's chaotic. If you want that, keep it. However, it is the opposite of a good forum and more like a Facebook/Instagram feed: easy to feed promoted content (earn cheap money) with low/no transparency (no author, etc.).
