Predictions for Ram Airs in 2019

Postby Pump me up » Sat Jan 19, 2019 11:49 pm

Well, it's that time of year again. 2019 has arrived with a bang or, for ram lovers, another big swim-in with their sleeping bag.

Previous predictions about ram airs have proven amazingly accurate. The exodus of riders from ram to inflatable will continue; ram air sales will continue to fall as a proportion of kites sold because they are less safe, harder to learn on, and aerodynamically inferior. A quick glimpse at place holders on http://www.worldkiteboardingleague.com will reveal a dearth of ram air "talent" in the upper ranks (freestyle, surf style, big air, etc). History will repeat this year: ram airs will crash and burn in ALL significant competitions.

One of the world’s most respected kite designers and erstwhile designer for FLYSURFER, Ralf Groesel, had this to say about ram airs last year, confirming EVERY suspicion ever raised about these inferior kites: “… it’s the Tube-kite that stands victorious. From a designer’s point-of-view it shines in every aspect; its simplicity in design is the key to controlling its complexity. Tube-kites rule most of the sport-related requirements… Soft-kites have an approximate market share of 4%, meaning that 96% of all kites sold worldwide are Tube-kites. This figure basically validates the success of the concept. Without being too sarcastic, you have to be a believer to think that Soft-kites are the future of the kite market…” For the full epiphany and admission, please check-out this link: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=2400039 With comments like this from respected kite designers, it is becoming harder and harder for ram lovers to justify their purchases.

Ignore the lies. Ignore the propaganda. Ram airs ARE aerodynamically inferior compared to inflatables.

Gee thanks Pmu :)

I took your advice and bought a new 8m Soul and a 11m Peter Lynn Aero.
Damn the 8m is good for loops and jumps with a huge wind range and hangtime.
I've ditched it 4 times twisted to hell from my mistakes - and just when myself and the rest of the beach thought I was Doomed..
It unravelled by itself a shot back up in the air - Rock on flysurfer Soul designers :thumb:

I've not received my 11m Aero yet, but will post when I do - as I'm sure you'd like an update from your kind recommendation.

Cheers :thumb:

My predictions for 2019 is that dudes will be sitting on the beach waiting for wind to blow enough for their lei's while I'm powered to all hell, trimmed and ripping up a storm on my foil/foil combo.

Not really the end of foil kite but more people with foil board start to use strutless and mono strut pump kite. Thats for sure
Foil kite still n1 in snowkite and for race competition.

Good ridance to overpriced, over technical, high maintanance middle aged rich peoples flying sleeping bags.

May they go the way of the kite raceboard. Send with them... click bars and everything else that makes kiting less accessible for youth.
