refurbishing control bar handle

Postby Rojbrown » Sun Jan 20, 2019 5:55 am

There may be a discussion on this somewhere but I haven't found it. What is the best tape/material to refurbish a control bar grip? Thanks!

Bicycle super soft foam tape (I can't remember which brand I used) is the best, most comfortable nicest looking replacement. it doesn't stick well enough on its on so you want to do your entire wrap and then after the wrap is done, get some other kind of tape like hockey tape or sail tape and on the ends of the bar tape do a single wrap around the end so it doesn't come undone. Done right it comes out better than your bar originally shipped.

I built an 80 cm bar for a 22m foil since I could not find one big enough. I used bicycle handlebar foam tape. It worked great and it's very comfy. It started moving around after the initial install so I had to unwind it and put contact cement on the bar and reinstall it. Now it's been solid for a few years. You put some tape at the tip where the foam tape ends. I used hockey tape.
