I am buying my foiling kit piece meal and just bought a a 2018 hoverglide NF2 and the 15" and 24" masts. I am 170 pounds and 5'8".
Now I need a board and the narrowed down choices are Dwarfcraft and Alien air i the 54" range.
Looking for feedback on each model.
Thanks in advance!

Even though they are the same length, the thickness makes that much difference?

The AA is great to learn on for 3-5 days and then is probably going to be too big. But the Dwarfcraft is going to be considerably more difficult to learn on as a complete beginner for those same days. Borrow an AA for a couple of days and buy the other.

I am new to foiling and got a 4’6” dwarf craft. Was up and riding 1st day on a 60cm mast without any issues. Highly recommend the dwarfcraft.

the AA was superb for my first attempts, it took me a good 6 sessions to get it sorted so I could go both ways for a few hundred yards without falling in, then I sold my AA and went to a Moses T60 on a 90cm mast and had to start all over again, it took me a further 10 sessions to get back to where I was Before.
most people don't get it as quickly as one session, and some never get there, sad but true.
make it as easy as possible to reduce the chance of a fail.
have realistic expectations and never give in.
and its important to stop using any other gear for a long time to build up good muscle memory.

I think it's just wider but has more volume and bulk. It's overly cumbersome and you don't get enough of a benefit to outweigh that.
The 4'6" DC is a nice freeride and smaller kite foil (wing size) board. If you're going with a surf wing, you'll want smaller board than this.

The cumbersome bulkyness does suck, but that size & volume can be quite helpful when learning foot-changes. I believe the later AA versions are smaller vs the original.

I learned surface changes on my original LF Fun Fish -- very little volume. Need power in the kite to keep up the board speed, regardless of the board -- unless you are very light. Again, what you gain from the extra size, you lose more from everything else. IMO

The slingshot boards suck, the rocker is all wrong. Sure, they work, but not very well. I've had a dwarfcraft and sold it at a loss after 10 sessions on it.
