Flydoor 6 v Flydoor 4 and 5

Postby dejavu » Wed Jan 23, 2019 5:19 am

Having owned a Flydoor 4 160 and loving its great light wind capability I would like any feedback form those that have used the new Flydoor 6 and can offer up some comparisons. With the new fin configuration in the Flydoor 6 how does this compare with the 4 and its centre fin that pulled massively upwind.

It is heavier, but easier to carry as you don't have the middle fin trying to stab you in the ribs, it is pretty comfortable to ride that's all I can say at this point.
I was learning on the 4th model(both the XL and L) and later bought myself the 6th, definitely it was a positive change but it is hard to explain, better find a test board and try it for yourself.

Appreciate the comments. Yes the centreline has jabbed me a few times. I just feel the new 6 would not pull upwind like the 4 without that centre fin.

The new one has 4 fins closer to the heel edge, while the old ones had them spaced evenly on the corners of the board, I think this also contributes to the upwind ability.
If you are happy with the 4/5 maybe you just need to refresh them a bit - new straps and handle will be much cheaper and keep you riding for long time.

I had the red, white and black one from 2010 (not sure which version it was) and regret selling it to this day!
If you have a version you really like, my advice is; don't sell it until you have really tried out the new one and satisfied it's better!

Hope it works out.

Yes. That is my thoughts also. The 4 is a great board. I do get little spray from the nose that I believe was addressed in the 5 but not a big issue. I just like to keep abreast of the tech changes but unfortunately as I have discovered not all of these changes are improvements. The marketing looks scmick but performance is not always enhanced. Thanks for the feedback.
