Info about Los Roques - Venezuela?

Postby Toby » Tue Jan 29, 2019 3:19 pm

Despite the problems Venezuela is having I see people kiting there.
Sure, not a good idea to go there nowadays until a calmed down.

But how do people get there the best way? By yacht? From a neighboring country?

Going thru Caracas doesn't sound like a safe option.

The spots just look fantastic...and one day I want to go for sure. Thinking of chartering a yacht to spend some weeks to go full power kiting and filming.

Thanks for any info!

Los roques is a hidden paradise. No big hotels and explorated stuff, only small posadas on the main island.

I was there 10 days 2013 for a fishing trip. Already then people where in trouble when you talked to them like a friend.

I dont know the exchange rate for dollar vs venzuelan money. But people want dollars there so you can black exchange with almost every resturant or hotel. This is the best way to get the most cash. The goverment rate is fixed by the goverment so this is no good rate. :)

Living: grand roque island, posadas. From there everyday you can take a boat to the island, I dont know which islands is kiting allowed, check this before you kite so the coast guard is not gonna take your equipment. This place is protected by laws to protect the nature. Los roques is safe for foreigners.

I was flying from frankfurt to simon boliviar airport with lufthansa. Then I took a airplane from the same airport day after becuase the travel agency werent able to find a flight the same day. This airport is outside caracas so you dont need to enter caracas. I wouldnt enter that city. There is some hotels at the coast near airport if you need to stay, but talk to the hotel so they fix you a transfer. Dont go by yourself to the hotel and dont go far from hotel, atleast not in the dark. I wouldnt take risks here. But los roques is safe, small island with friendly people.

The plane to islands is quite small, there where atleast two or three airport companies when I was there, flying there with different sizes of airplane. The trip take only hour. Cant garantuee that those airplanes are the safest.

Living: posadas can be quite expensive, I think italians own some of them, dont know the prices now, because tourism has dropped a lot since I was there. But food and other stuff is cheap.

I would maybe wait after the goverment thing is over.

You dont need to charter yacht, the posade give you free ride or for a small fee with the gran roque motor boats to every island you desire. You also recive a fully packed freeze box with food and fruits and then the boats drive you back in the afternoon again. The gas is not expensive there. Food is delicious on the gran roque and some small resturants on the islands.

Its mostly flatwater there, and everyday I was there it was windy. Maybe there is some wave spoot in grand roque but i dont kow if its possible to quite there becuase its near airport.

ITs 70 percent mostly couples on honey moon on these Islands. So bring girlfriend from venzeuala or from home ;) There was atleast on bar on gran roque.

Thanks for the info!

I still think renting a yacht is the best idea for getting there and having a nice place to stay right at the spot.

No waves needed, just flat, warm and turquoise is what I want.

I hope for Venezuela they solve their problems ASAP so I can go there...maybe earliest in 2020.

But for sure it’s on my to do list!

I've been in Los Roques for the past 5 years, and I've scheduled kitetrip this year. But I wait for the political situation to stabilize to confirm the trip. I advise to wait before deciding something

Regards
Frid

Hi Toby, this comes from a great source within Venezuela:

Still we continue to focus in working for maintain/improve the kitesurf community in our country. Los Roques is one of our best locations to do so, and we own Los Roques Paradise which include one catamaran leopard 46, one posada with 7 rooms and airplane tickets. This being said, we could arrange the whole trip for the kitesurfers that want to get here with only one contact to make it easier. Everyone would have to fly to Maiquetia (ccs), and from there we can help them with local airplane tickets to Los Roques, lodging and kitesurf trips.

You can check our instagram account @losroquesparadise and our website Losroquesparadise.com
Here is the email for any requests: Info@losroquesparadise.com

Thanks for all the support,
Please let me know if you need further information.

I hope to visit this location as soon as possible.
