Really sorry to hear this, I kite Saunton and it's normally quite a safe beach. I was out today at Southend-on-sea and it was wild 7m weather with huge gusts to 50+mph.

sad news again. My condolences.
Earlier urgent weather alerts were issued for gale force winds, but the circumstances around the kitesurfer's death are not yet known.
All one should know is, that those winds are deadly. His call, his life. Paid with it.
Be warned people

I wasn't there so not sure how the conditions were on site, but fwiw before people get judgemental about high wind kiting, the worst of the storm was due to miss Saunton on Sat and the forecast was only mid 20s gusting low 30s.
There were plenty of us out further east in England where it was averaging high 30s, which is definitely elevated risk conditions.

25-30 is fine. The report says way more.
Any wind graph from that day and area available?
