2017 Click bar Y split question

Postby MichaelRRRR » Sun Feb 10, 2019 2:45 pm

Hello all!

Just bought a second hand click bar, and was having a look how it's setup.

I'm wondering what the exact function of this black ball is on my click-bar.
My best guess is that when you release the bar wont slide all the way to the kite, it should be stopped by this ball.

However at my bar this ball loose and can run back and forth over the flag line.

Perhaps somebody can help me out and explain me the purpose of this black ball.

I don't remember the click bar having that stopper ball, maybe I am wrong but it leaves me blank as to why it's there.
Maybe a personal modification, it is a stopper ball as the stainless grub screw is clearly visible, if you insert a small Allen key into the grub screw you can clamp the ball to the line.
Not a great idea as that would prevent your safety release system from operating correctly. If at all.☠️☠️
What's at the top of the red line? Just before it changes to the standard flying line?
There should be a spliced in stopper ball, if not then move that black "lock off" ball you have to the top of the thicker red line, fixing it tight at that point to stop your bar flying too far up you lines in the event of you fireing off your safety.

You should tighten the grub screw using a fcs key.
That ball should not move up and down like you describe. Place it 5cm below the V distributor (when the V distributor is on the lowest red setting)
You should notice that the red line is slightly thicker at that spot, allowing for the grub screw to bite and lock the black ball in place.
Don't worry, your safety will still work as the ball is below the V distributor so will be able to slide when you activate your chicken loop.

Foil, I think that the ball is part of the setup, you can see a tiny black spot on the schematics. i believe it represents the black ball.

Jerome,
okey, that makes more sense, so the ball actually acts as a stopper for your bar when you pull your safety if i'm understanding correctly.
The pu tube would slide al the way up until it meets this black ball.

The thumbscrew/ring and black ball is part of the 2018 and later V distributor components. 2017 had a cheap clip that didn't work well and prematurely wore sections of the line.

If you aren't running a North kite you can remove all that rubbish and just use the bar like a normal low V setup.

may I revive this thread to ask other questions about the Y split in the 2017 click bar?

I have this bar with the original distributor and wondering if I could replace with the newer version to solve the issue of excessive wear in the red line (not happening on my bar yet)

I also would like to put the Y split closer to the bar and can't figure out an easy way to do it in the 2017 version

Yes you can get a later year distributor, they screw on to the line so you can move it anywhere you want.

Yes - I did this. 5 min job and a lot easier adjusting it on cold days; I have 2016, 17, and 18 kites; 4-5 lines and all need different things.
