Postby longwhitecloud » Wed Feb 13, 2019 9:55 am

it seems its finally valve delam time for me, such fun getting smashed in the surf after it pretty much fell off!

anyone superglue them back on successfully and they lasted ok?

I am pretty sure they are all going to delam now nothing much sticking them :-(

are naish bladders urathane based?

3m 5200 Fast Cure. Burnsco stocks it.
Have fun!

Never tried superglue, doubt it'd do the job. But Aquaseal never let me down. Clean / Roughen / Apply on both sides / Wait a bit to become tacky / Clamp together
Good to make a gig with a piece of wood drilled at the outer diameter of the valve so that you can apply uniform pressure around the valve while it dries overnight.

Typically the glue to use for valves or bladders will not "stick" but actually fuse both sides.

Good luck!

Yes, +1 for aquaseal. I've said this before and will say it again. I did some tests with various bonding techniques. Cleaning and light sanding helps, but also wiping it with rubbing alcohol (and let it dry) will greatly improve the bond you get.

what foam-fibre said. aquaseal holds a little bit better than 3m5200 that said I still prefer 3m5200 because you can be completely finished in about 3 hours while aquaseal takes the full 24 hours to cure. Sanding and rubbing alcohol are required for a good bond, don't skip those steps. And also make sure to put a cylinder on top of the valve and weight it, otherwise you can get wrinkles under the valve.

Had good results with mcnetts aquasure. I assume its just a local brand version of aquaseal?

The key for me is to use clamps to get the required pressure to drive all the air bubbles out of the seal area whilst it dries (and also leaving it for at least 12 hours (warm conditions) to cure)

Superglue won't work. It will get brittle and hard. You want a glue that remains flexible and, of course, waterproof. As others have said, Aquaseal is your best bet. Definitely put weight on the glued valve while it dries (a barbell weight with valve positioned in the hole works well).
