Suicide Leash

Postby 7seas » Thu Feb 14, 2019 12:50 am

Hi All,
I am doing a study on control systems for my master thesis at uni and am looking for some information/history.

I am wondering if anyone knows if there had been a Quick Release system available by any brand before 2009 where the safety line was attached to a ring big enough to fit over the chicken loop, but also allowed the safety leash to be hooked onto the same ring as well?

This is what I'm looking for:

If anyone has any information and photos in particular that would be awesome!

Thanks

North Iron Heart had this beginning in 2010. I believe that's earlier than Flysurfer, Liquid Force, Slingshot, Ozone, Cabrinha, Wainman, Epic, Core, Gaastra, HQ, Naish, but not sure about F-one, Flexifoil, Nobile, Ocean Rodeo, Peter Lynn or RRD. If this is for a dissertation you'll need references lol not just some guy on the internet spouting nonsense. Sucks that North kiteboarding is defunct now that they are split into Duotone and North Sails, so it might be hard to get a company rep to give you a quote you can cite.

My buddy and I had a brand called X-Shooter.

We developed in 2004 (!) a system, where you had suicide, but also a leash with a remote control...this means if you went unhooked, you had a release on your leash to activate the QR, so the kite would fully depower, but still be attached to you!

Still til today there is nothing like this on the market...that bar had everything...therefore we called it Masterpiece ;-)

Look at this video...minute 1:39

I don’t develop it.

Giovani from Rio is working on it.
Prototypes are around.
Hopefully he starts a kickstarter soon.

But it won’t be a bar...just a Microloop and hook add on that would fit almost all bars.

As far as I know it was in 2010 when this feature was introduced by two manufactures (at least within the US market).
1) North's Trust Bar with their updated Iron Heart 3 release system.
2) Slingshot's new Comp Stick bar that allowed the CSS flagging loop (red loop/metal ring combo) to be attached to the CL in the same manor as North.
